Guest guest
When is it time? I got released today from PT tonight -- a few days shy of 3 months. But we didn't meet that many times in the last month. I'm still on meds, waiting for day the pain goes away. But just hearing I met my goals, flexion, extension, steps, etc., gave me a boost. I hope they're right! My milestone day is when it quits hurting and I can give up the pills. I did do a water workout class after PT. It's so much more fun than taking my list of exercises and doing them by myself. I checked and if I felt something wasn't coverd, I did it after class. Then I came home and popped in the DVD for the shiatsu ball that I bought over a month ago. I could only do a few things -- much less than I could do before surgery. Time to seriously start building strength and flexibility -- one day a time without hurting myself. :-) Donnalindy <everyothername.istaken@...> wrote: how long does PT generally last? hugs, linDUHlouTRHR 1/22/2007 Hi Judy,I'm on the patch too. How many mg are you taking. I started post-opat 75mg and went down to 25 a couple of weeks ago. When PT told methat I was losing ground because of my lowered threshold they put meback up to 50mg. Now I'm up to 115-degrees and sleeping better. Ifound out what PT with no Pain Meds was like last week when I misreadthe calendar and forgot to switch my patch and missed 4 days with nomedication. Boy did that hurt. Oh well we all have stupid moments.Anyway to all, what ever you are on, don't try to come off too fast orit will impact your ability to progress in PT. There will be plenty oftime to get off the medication after PT is done. No one likes being onpain meds, but unfortunately the recovery from TKR requires it. Chinup and keep pushing for PT. Our pay-off is 6-months from now when weare all walking PAIN FREE.Best to All,Alan B. > > > Folks, when did your sleeping get back to normal? Guest guest
, Congrats! Yoga, water class? You've obviously worked very hard for those excellent results. :-) Warm regards, Donna Pets007@... wrote: I finish PT next wek (TKR Aug 21st)....today after my water class and a yoga class I bent my knee 134 degrees by myself! Guest guest
Alan, Thank you! My goals were to walk the steps normally (that actually depends on the day and the steps and how much medication is in my system) and to get my my flex to 130 and extensions to 0 or close to it. My flex is at 134. My extensions are stuck at 3 and 4. I plan to keep working on that at home and in the pool. But my PT says it's not going to have that much impact on me. Remember, I'm 12 weeks post op on Friday -- about an entire month ahead of you. So be easy on yourself. It sounds like you are doing great. We must be patient and not let unrealistic expectations drag us down. My pain is worse now than before surgery. But I had unusally good summer (dry, hot) and cortisone shots in my hips, which had a profound impact on the knees. But I still couldn't walk far. My coworkers walked up the street for lunch, while I drove. A date would become embarrassing when I had to ask to sit down. Most importantly, I could no longer walk to the playground with the grandkids. These precious years with them fly by. I didn't want to lose any more fun times with them. And I'm sure the intense pain would have returned with the cold weather. No regrets! Recovery has been harder and longer than I expected. But, absolutely, we will soon back to a normal life. Christmas will be better. And wait until spring. You won't be able to stop us! I had a great moment yesterday. Since the day of the surgrey, the back of my right knee has an extremely painful spot. My PT worked on it with massage, necessary but painful enough to make me bury my head and moan. Yesterday, when she had me lay on my stomach and dangle my feet. I prepared for the pain and it never came! That bad spot is gone. Gosh, I needed a big breakthrough in the pain -- what a boost. My guess is that my PT broke up the scar tissue in there. You make me feel better about my pain meds. My doctor doesn't seem pleased I'm still on them. But he can't tell me why I'm still in such pain, just that some people have more pain longer. Perhaps the arthritis throughout my body? Whatever, I have to do whatever it takes to get up and go to work every morning. Hmm....I need to stop what I'm doing right now and get that appointment with a pain management specialist and get more and longer-term solutions. I looked up Norco, which you take. I learned I'm taking the same thing, but under the generic name. I'm not familiar with Fentanyl. But I'm taking an opiate via an extended release pill twice a day. I was off both of those meds and on Tylenol with Codeine for one week, at my own request. But it was too soon. I was getting worse instead of better. Remember, no beating yourself up. You are right on course. Warm regards, Donna mbwebman <mbwebman@...> wrote: Hi Donna,Congratulations on the meeting of your PT goals, what were they? I'min my 2-steps backwards phase. I'm back to 110 degrees flex, but I'monly about 8-weeks in. My doctor wants 130 degrees flex bilateral andof course 0-degrees extension. I'm down to -2 & -3 on extension soI'm not worried about those. As for the pain medication I understandthat it will continue until about month four before all the postoperative, muscular and scar tissue pain begins to really dissipate.I'm looking forward to that too. But keep in mind, I'm sure that youare already experiencing less pain than before surgery. I know thatI am. For the first time in my entire life I know what it is to beable to sit for extended periods without acute pain in my knees. It'sa new experience and I'm really enjoying it. I can't wait to knowwhat it's like to walk without pain. Maybe it will be our Xmaspresent to have that?Best Regards,Alan B.> > > > Folks, when did your sleeping get back to normal? Guest guest
LOL. And I hate you, , because you just have an ache. Meanwhile, I'm in still in full-blown pain here. I'll trade you results. :-) My surgery was Sept. 8. I forget...was yours August? Seriously, I am getting nervous about the pain. But I had the breakthrough moment where the worst pain, in the back of my knee, just disappeared. So I'm hoping over the next couple weeks, these knees will do their magic. I haven't used ice wraps for two nights because my knees haven't been swollen. I never though to ask how long others used them. I don't think I've given mine up for good by any means. But I may not need them every night now? Do you still use them, ? Pets007@... wrote: In a message dated 11/29/2006 9:49:51 AM Eastern Standard Time, mbwebman writes: 134 degrees flex?? It feels like it is supposed to feel when you bend a joint! I love it! It's still swollen and I have days where it feels kind of "squishy" in there, but the therapist said that is still normal! Guest guest
, You're about 2 1/2 weeks ahead of me.I'm going to make me you my idol. :-) Nothing like pressure, huh? I'm off to the pool this morning because there is a chance I could be at the office late today. I've faithfully vowed to get there regularly, despite work or the holidays. No, I won't put away the ice packs yet, but this is the first couple days the swelling has been down. Besides I'm attached to my ice packs by now. I 'm seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and it looks good! :-) Warm regards, Donna Pets007@... wrote: In a message dated 11/29/2006 10:30:29 PM Eastern Standard Time, ohdonna_68 writes: Sept. 8.
