Have you found that you have been gaining weight when taking the

Neurontin? I gained 10 pounds in the last three months since I

started taking it. Maybe I am doing it wrong by spacing it

throughout the day, I take three 100mg capsules at seperate times

during the day and then I take one 300mg capsule before I go to

bed. Each time I take one I get extremely hungry within a half hour

and have no choice but to eat something. Eating constantly like

this is obviously why I am gaining all of the weight, but I have

tried to ignore the hunger and it only gets worse and worse as

though I haven't eaten in hours.

I decided last night to stop taking it and see if my doctor has

something better to offer me without that side effect. Once you

have used the Cymbalta for a bit would you mind letting us know how

it is working for you and what side effects if any that you have?

After my revision surgery, my rt foot and lower leg felt really funny. The dr wasn't too concerned about the numbness, said if its numb, then it doesn't hurt. He put me on Neuron tin and I kept gaining weight. I am a thin person, but gained around 20 lbs taking it. So, I quit, it didn't help that much. I have found not much helps in the way of medication. The numbness is worse in the evenings and at night. I take a sleeping pill every night so I can sleep. Otherwise, the pain wakes me up at night. The dr told me it would be better in 2 years, but that has come and gone. I think during the surgery, permanent nerve damage was done. I do have straight in my foot, but find it difficult to drive the car. Sometimes, I press too hard on the accelerator or the brake. I do hope you will get better. It made me really dizzy so I had to be very carefull when I took

it. I did find it helped me to fall asleep easier though, I miss

that side of it.

I was just seeing my regular gp for my ingrown toe nail problems, he

removed it once and it became a problem again within six months, so

he did the permanent removal and within three weeks it was infected

again. I went back to see him to see if he could tell me what the

problem was and he refered me to a podiatrist. I think mine is due

to it being on the foot of my short leg and I spend more

time 'standing' on this leg than I do on the long leg. I know that

sounds odd, but I don't have the ingrown toe nail problem on my

other foot. I haven't made the appointment with the podiatrist yet

so I am not sure what this person will have to say about my theory.

Hey Joe,

What kind of shoes and pedals does the guy ride. Old style, Italian cleats

put a great deal of focused pressure on the metatarsal heads, and often

flexed over that area. It sounds to me like compression of the

communicating branches of the plantar nerves. Try Tinel's over plantar met

heads between digits 3-5, and Morton's squeeze test. Palpate the

interdigital spaces between 3-4 and 4-5 toes at the met heads too. Good

luck.

Hi!

I received my total hip replacement(left) in June at the age of 49 -

what a huge difference it has made!!!

I still am not able to put on my sock, nor bed to tie shoes on the

left. There is some tingling and numbness constantly on the outer edge

of the sole of my foot and heel - sometimes it travels up the ankle,

again on the outer side.

Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? The physical

therapist said if occus in abut 80 -90% of all replacements, but the

feeling fades.

Thanks for any info....

I felt numbness in both feet, even before the surgery. I understood that to be

from

stenosis and or nerve compressed by sciolosis (I have some of both). It did not

get better

with the RTHR but it did not get much worse. Sometimes the caves are involved.

Ask the PT for stretching exercises. I have been gett my shoe/sock on for 2

months now

and I had the surger June 7.

I am 61.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Susie. Yes I have lower spine arthritis. I love to wear socks because

without them

I feel how numb the soles of my feet are! I think I have arthritis in myh toes.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

hi Janet,

i'm wondering how the pain in my spine will be after my hip is replaced. today i woke up with awful pain in my lower back, first time in a long time it outdid the pain in my hip. of course this is another thing i'm going to talk to my surgeon about on tuesday. i have a long list of questions for him. ;-) i'm also noticing some numbness in my right toes now, that's new!

Hi Janet, Before my RTHR I use to get really bad pain at the bottom

of my spine and my last xray before my RTHR which I had last April

did indeed show arthiritus of the lower spine. But since my hip

replacement , the pain in my lower back has gone :) So hopefully

that will happen for u too.

Lindy, I had terrible pain in my spine prior to having my right hip replaced. It

went away

shortly after, but it has returned because my left hip needs replaced (it will

be done in

January). The pain was from center to the right before my right hip was done,

now it is

center to the left because of my left hip. I also have scoliosis, but my ortho

said that most

of the spinal pain is hip related. I hope he is right. My spinal pain comes and

goes. Some

days it is better than others. One day last week it was so bad when I woke up in

the

morning, I could barely get out of bed. The pain lasted all day. The next day, I

was fine.

arianne,

that's how my pain is -- from center towards the right. my lower back always hurts, just worse some days, but it's always there, same as my hippy dippy hip. ;-)

i'm glad you're having your left hip fixed in january -- hey, that's when i'm having my right one done.

I'm glad you are getting your hip done in January, also. Perhaps we can exchange

hi Jen,

first of all -- i LOVE this scripture.

2nd, i was wondering about sleeping in a recliner. i have a question though. you know how when you lift the footrest of a recliner, sometimes it pops up real hard, like a jerk -- wouldn't that really hurt a joint that's just been replaced? my hubby has actually talked of buying me a new recliner for after the surgery because we have a rocker and a slouchy (soft) sofa only in our living room, which i know neither will probably really be appropriate for me to sit in afterwards. i'm all for a new recliner :-), but first i want to make sure i'm not going to hurt my hip joint when that footrest pops up.

oh GEE, i can't wait to have half my brain gone, especially since i'm only working with a half a brain already. HA HA HA i should be real FUN! tee hee

Hugs,

Lindy Lou

Well, I’m two and a half weeks post new knee. I slept better last night than I have since my surgery. Due to the pain, I set an alarm to take my meds every three hours. I woke up each time, took the meds and went right back to sleep. I’m still sleeping in the recliner because I can’t get comfortable in the bed where I have to sleep on my side, but I’m going to give that another try this week.

I’m “going back to work tomorrow.” I put it in quotes because I am self employed and work from home. I’m feeling well enough to prop my foot up at the computer and get some work done. Until the last few days, I’ve felt as someone else on here described – like they took half my brain when they gave me my new knee. I think it’s finally grown back and I can concentrate on work now.

My knee does swell up still any time it’s not propped up and I can only bend it 73 degrees, but hopefully that will get better in the next few weeks.

Thanks for all the support. I haven’t posted much, but I have been reading. Keep up the good work!

Jen

"'For I know the plans I have for you' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future.'" 29:11
