Guest guest
Good to hear from you Colleen, sorry to hear that you are in a similar situation to me. When is your surgery scheduled for? I really hope and pray that it goes smoothly for you and that you get the sort of life that you and I are dreaming of. My deteriation has happened slowly but got much worse in the last couple of years. I cant wait to push a trolley round the supermarket, go clothes shopping and walk along the beach without any pain. A real dream, but hopefully a reality. Do you know what sort of hip you are going to have? Im still looking into the pros and cons of each sort, there are so many!!! Anyway, take care and keep in touch Liney --- Colleen <colleen-joe@...> wrote: --------------------------------- Hi Liney, I am also 28 yrs old & awaiting a take down of a hip fusion followed by a thr 4 weeks later on the same side (right). I am very well aware of the term range of motion - you did not make it up! I have had very limited rom for many years now. I was born with displasia and then had severe avn. 10 yrs ago I went back to an OS due to the avn taking almost all of the ability to move my right hip. They determined at that point that there was not anything they could do except for fuse my hip so that I would not get arthritis later in life. Long story short - it obviously made my chief complaint much worse. I have been waiting my whole life for a replacement so as of right now, I am much more excited than worried. (I am sure that will change a bit as it gets closer). My doctor tells me that my rom will be infinately better than what I have now (which is none). So the activities that I look forward to are sitting on the floor, riding a bike, tying my shoes, etc. My thr recovery is a little bit unpredictable because of the fusion and the non-use of my muscles for so long. My doctor has not mentioned the term custom hip but he will do a CT scan and computer mock-up of my hip & surrounding area to assist him in the planning & during the actual operation. From what I understand this is a fairly new technology but can be very beneficial. I have read many of the posts on this board & am very glad to have found it. Guest guest
Hello, My surgery is scheduled for December 14th to take down the fusion. I will go back about 4 weeks later for the THR. I seems like so far away but I know it will come up quick. I believe my doctor is planning on using ceramic but I am not quite sure if it will be ceremic on ceramic or plastic. I see that from your previous post you are scheduled for Sept. I had a surgeon tell me to come back in 20 yrs when I asked about THR. I am so glad there are doctors out there that understand the value of quality of life. Has your doctor told you how long you would be out of work? Thanks for your post & I will stay in touch. Guest guest
Hi Colleen, My surgeon says that I will be off work for at least 8 weeks. I am a teacher and he thinks that school wont want me back if I am on crutches. Im personally not sure about that but think it would be good ot go back to work for a couple of weeks before Christmas so that I can recover again in the Christmas holidays!! Well, keep in touch Liney ___________________________________________________________ALL-NEW Messenger - all new features - even more fun! http://uk.messenger.
