Why Roll Call?

Dear All,

It is traditional for message boards with memberships to have a Roll

Call at the beginning of the year. I know I was very early in my

educators site to do this, but am just now getting around to it for

this site. (See my next post for actual roll call).

Many sites boast about their membership numbers. The TRUTH is most of

the membership is inactive! I KNOW because I am an owner of several

sites.

About this site: Many members use this site only during their study

time and until they are notified that they have passed the PTCB. While

I know of only one person who has admitted to not passing the PTCB

while using this site, who self-admittedly began studying too close to

the exam date, most people will go inactive or leave the group after

the good news! Of those who go inactive (do not leave the group): it

means that they change their email status to be 'no email' and they do

not know what is going on the site and they just do not care any

more. But their name appears as part of the membership and counts

towards the number of members.

Many others who used the site to take the PTCB exam, remain or stay

active and regularly post and help others to study for the future

exams. I wish to thank these people for thier continued and valued

input and opinions that make this site what it is.

Many others stay on as 'silent' members to see what is going on in

pharmacy and learn, but they never post. To these people I say you are

most welcome to stay as members and you give credence to the purpose

of this site: to recognize technicians and to educate them.

I beleive that this site has much to offer all techs and students, no

matter where they are in their field or career path. Many members are

'seasoned' technicians, still interested in learning.

But I am one who wants REAL membership numbers. About 1/3 of my

members get 'individual emails', while 1/3 get 'daily digest emails'

and the remaining 1/3 get 'NO EMAILS'. From this one can deduce that

2/3 of the members are active members because they want to receive

emails. They are either 'silent or posting' members.

However the other 1/3 that have 'NO MAIL' status are a mixture of

those who:

A. Never check the site any more and are not active, and do not know

how to terminate their membership or are too lazy to do so, or do not

want to know what is going on in pharmacy any more, bu tjust a have

not gotten around to ending membership.

OR

B. They are active and GO directly to the site to ready and post from it.

I myself have emails delivered to my email address BECAUSE I am the

owner. But as OWNER I have an obligation to check on the 'look' of the

site. I prefer to go to my site to check on posts and to see that it

looks good. But I read much of the posts via my email.

Any way I would like you to add your name to the roll call. In so

doing I will also like you to tell us a bit about yourself:

Name

State

Pharm Tech Associations that you belong to? Officer?

CPhT? Studying? Registered?

On the Job Trained?

School Program Educated?

Number of years/months you have been a tech or CPhT?

Specialty area: Retail, IV's, Long Term care, Managed Care?

Hobbies?

Etc ?

Okay! Let me say this: If I do not get a roll call check posted from

you within a week, I will probably pull your name from the membership

and consider you inactive. Since it is a time for vacations, I will

give it to the third week in January.

Thank you for your membership this past study group 'season' and to

the many who have continue on for so much longer. I look forward to

serving you and your educational needs in 2006 as well as to learn

from you!

May you all have a wonderful prosperous New Year!

Love to All,
