Guest guest
Hi all, I am new to this group and a new practicioner. I am having a challenge that I really need advice about from a natural health perspective. I had a third baby boy in late August. He was diagnosed with Down Syndrome when he was three weeks. We actually had a wonderful home birth then he had a fever on the 8th day and we spent 2 weeks at the hospital. He was never super sick but they ran all sorts of tests and pumped him with lots of antibiotics. They found some slight pneumonia but the main reason they kept us was because he was not maintaining high enough oxygen levels. So now he is almost 4 months old. He is still on oxygen at night. He is eating well, gaining well and meeting all his milestones. They found a hole in his heart (ventricular septal defect) which is almost 8mm and his lungs have fluid in them and lots of pressure. They want to do heart surgery mid-January to patch the hole. His lungs have gotten better eventhough I am only giving the albuterol breathing treatment. The lung doc wanted him on Pulmacort a steroid as well. I have been running him on the device since birth. Blackard and Faith ran him on the device when he was in the hospital and afterwards. I have also taken him for cranial sacrial work and to an osteopath. Everyone agreed he has fungus in the left lung. The osteopath told me the steroid would make the fungus worse so I opted not to give it to him. Anyway, long story short....The lung doc is recommending a drug called Synagis to prevent RSV which he says he WILL get sometime before he is 2 and he is high risk. It is 65% effective in prevention. 1 shot once a month for 5 months for the crazy amount of $6500. Finally my question: I can't find respiratory syncytial virus in the device. Am I missing something? Does anyone know if this is something I could see on the device and balance him out as a form of prevention. What about a supplement???? I really don't want to give him this drug but I don't want to see him in the hospital with a ventalator either. FYI - My other boys had RSV their second winter and it was not bad but I know with DS is different. I also breastfeed and we eat 90% organic, no sugar/soda etc... I also homeschool my boys. We have been staying home from church till we see about his heart. I am still praying it will close on its own!!!!!! Thank you so much for reading this. Any advice is welcome.
