Guest guest
My name is Debbie and I am a pharmacy tech who has just finished at Bryman College and did 160 hours in an inpatient pharmacy at Kindred Westminster Hospital. I want to stay in a hospital pharmacy or a closed door pharmacy. I have my tech license and just found out that I passed the National Cert. Exam, so I am a certified pharmacy tech but how do I get the experience if noone will hire you. I have a resume and a letter of recommendation from the pharmacist at my extern site. Thanks in advance for any advice look forward to hearing from you Thanks again, Debbie
Guest guest
Debbie, Are you in California? Orange Co? How did you like your school program? the internship? Well you need to work closely with your placement officer at the school and ask them to send you on some interviews. Be sure to write a good cover letter. A cover letter is an introduction of yourself. A good CL basically sells the idea to at least take a look at your resume a bit longer than usual. Go neighborhood knocking yourself! Get to them BEFORE they place an ad or tell a friend that they are looking for a tech. Offer to volunteer to show them that you are willing to prove yourself to them. Try areas that are farther away from home where it is more difficult to get educated techs. Good Luck, Keep us posted... Guest guest
Jill, There is a cooperative forming in south central Illinois. Email me privately and I'll see where they're at. Dear Listmates: My daughter who has autism is 17 1/2. Where would I start to investigate the possibility of developing a small home setting for adults with disabilities? I don't even know where to begin. Since there are so little services in our pathetic state of Illinois, I feel like perhaps it's going to require me to do something on my own. I live downstate in Illinois about an hour southwest of Springfield. Thanks! Jill A. Plato 26267 Panhandle Rd. Guest guest
I would agree with everything Ellen has said. All of those things are very practical, but dreaming never hurt. In addition, I would start keeping a running list of things you want in your daughter's future living arrangementts. Also, are there any group homes in your area you know about? See if you can arrange a visit to see what already exists. Ask fellow parents in the area if they know of anything. By visiting something that already exists, you can either see what you DON'T want or get inspired. Unfortunately, in Illinois, you never know what you'll find. And don't be afraid to think outside the box--we here at IPADD like to be creative for tough situations. Keep us informed. IPADD is for the WHOLE state and we want all of Illinois to be great for our loved ones. Marie, co-moderator > > It is a longer reply than I can make at the moment, but for starters, aside from getting the non-existent funding, my recommendations would be, in this order; identify like-minded families in your community and assemble as a group to create something...even if you each want individual apartments, working together can be both comforting and powerful, especially when you visit legislators to tell your storie and try to sensitize them to the needs of their constituents who happen to have disabilities, then you represent a voting block...next have a talk with your Preadmission and Screening agency and update your PUNS to reflect your desire for housing for your child, they can also help you identify every agency that provides residential supports to people with disabilities in your geographic region, if you don't already know your resources. Next, investigate co-ops and microboards to see if that is another option for forming supports around your child > or around the group that you put together. > I am sure others will have different approaches or things to add to this beginning list. Making a time line and list of things to do might be helpful. You also might want to go look at a variety of housing options in your area and beyond to get a sense of what different living arrangements look like. > Hope this helps! > Ellen > > > > Ellen Garber Bronfeld > egskb@... > 847/212-3036 (cell) > > > > Where do I start?? > > > Dear Listmates: > > My daughter who has autism is 17 1/2.
