Cherry,

There are some pharmacists who'll do the minimum possible to do their jobs.

I know a few. I knew a few before I graduated from pharmacy school and

hated working with them, because I generally felt like I was working alone.

(IE: The RPh wouldn't answer the phone, wouldn't type anything up, would do

the final verification, counsel, take new rx's over the phone, and that was

about it!)

I will admit to on occasion just wanting to sit down and do the part I

legally have to do and letting the technicians do the rest of it. (Of

course, the fact that I've worked 30+ hours of overtime in the past 2 weeks

would slightly factor into that this past week!) But I also warn the techs

if I'm going to do that, and they know if they need me, to ask, and I'll do

things, even if I feel like sh*t. (IE: Dang my calves and hands are sore

today, but since July 5th, I've only had one day off -- this past Thursday

-- until today.)

I turn 33 next month, and I can honestly say that, except for a 2 year

period, I have been doing tech work since I was 12. My mother is a

pharmacist, and my parents had their own pharmacy for almost 10 years.

There are not labor laws against your own children. :) Since I was a

technician for many many years, I will do whatever needs to be done in the

pharmacy. I believe all pharmacists should be willing to do whatever needs

to be done to get things finished. Since things are ultimately the

pharmacists responsibility.

Please don't lump all of us into one group. :) Some of us actually will work

our *bleeps* off doing tech stuff. On July 5rh, the pharmacy manager called

to see if I would come in, and I basically went in to 'tech' as there were

over 50 refills in the refill stack to be counted, etc. Big whoop. That's

a part of my job.

Re: PTCB

Good Luck! I thought I was prepared also, also worked full time in a

pharmacy. Went to take the test and 90 questions were over calculations that

I never saw before! Mainly hospital calculations, and I was in a retail

pharmacy (K-Mart). Failed by 5 points! Can you believe that?! I will NEVER

rely on any websites to help me. Also, I purchased the DELMAR workbook of

pharmacy technician certification, never helped me either. I was pretty

upset; then furious. I think paying the $120.00 is a big rip off! They must

make a lot of money considering not many manage to pass it, then take it

again, only to fail it again. Go to pharmacy school, get your degree, that's

where the real money is anyway. Wow, all of the hard work you have to do in

a pharmacy, lets face it, pharmacists don't do squat! They sit around and

wait for you to do ALL of the work while they shake a bottle; might open it

up to see if you put the right meds. in there, and say, " its correct. " And

you pay a lot of money to take

the test only to pass and STILL make medium wage or maybe a dollar more.

Why are we killing ourselves here guys? There's a lot of money to be made

out there, go and invest your money into something that will be at least

halfway profitable for you and your family. Sorry, but being honest and

telling the truth will only help others out there. Thank you.
