Guest guest
Good to hear the bad guys lost on Tuesday! kp All human activity lies within the artists scope. -Chaucer Fradulent Rx  Jeanetta We had alot of excitement on the job Tuesday. We had a person come in to get a Narco Rx filled. He was acting funny so I told the lead tech and she verified that the rx was not written by the doc. We called the police and they arrested the person for trying to fill a fradulent rx.If he had not acted so strange we would have filled the rx and all of those pills would be sold out on the street. Good on the job skills and team work paid off for us.
Guest guest
WOW! I bet your nerves were rattled! 'called police'; do you use a 'panic button' or do you actually call the police? Can you give us more detail on the 'strange behavior'? For those of you who do not know , she has been a member of this site and a tech for many, many years. Any suspicious behavior that you can teach the site members to keep an eye out for would help. How did you communicate with each other with out the fake patient knowing what was going on? Please share as much as you feel comfortable sharing. Thanks Jeanetta Mastron CPhT BS F/O > > Jeanetta > We had alot of excitement on the job Tuesday. Guest guest
Why not tell this patient the pharmacy is really busy right now and it would be at least a couple of hours to fill if not more or to come back in a couple of hours, Say 5:00pm or something. So you can make all the calls to the doctor without the guy knowing. Doesn't it seem less dangerous to give the guy a long wait time then to have him walking around the pharmacy with a possible weapon and putting other customers and patients not to mention pharmacy personnel at risk? Do you really want him in the pharmacy acting so wierd and antsy? In this scenario did anyone mention what drug he was trying to get filled I am a little confused as to what he was trying to fill? I do teach my students this scenario EXACTLY. I do also tell them to use post it notes with a code word if necessary. So that one does not have to take a long time to write or be overheard by the fake pt. Wise choice to call cops if possible and not be overheard. HOW did you tell each other? via a note? whisper? phone? other method? GREAT JOB! Congrats! by the way was there a weapon? Guest guest
Jeanetta The way the store is set up the front counter is not close to where we fill the rx's We go up a step to get to the actual filling counter. I leaned down so he could not see me and spoke to Margie very quietly. Then the other girl was asked to do a project. Margie and her went to a back office and told her to call the dr. This is when our boss returned and took over. No weapon was used. The Police took him into another office to talk with him. Got a little scarry when he tried to elbow the cop and they took him down to the floor. Needless to say he was also charge with resisting arrest. thanks leslie From: Jeanetta Mastron <rxjm2002 (DOT) com> Subject: [JeanettasPTCBStudy Group] Re: Fradulent Rx JeanettasPTCBStudyG roup@groups .com Date: Sunday, February 21, 2010, 5:11 AM Â WOW! Guest guest
Thanks again for sharing. All newbies need to be aware of the possibilities. I think it is important for all who are studying to know while it is not the every day occurence it is happening and could happen to you while on duty. If this is not your cup or tea, maybe you should consider another line of work. Guest guest
One interesting fact that I have come across in my years. By filling the prescription with the label of the controlled substance and then putting Tylenol (or any other drug) into the container and SELLING it to the customer, the PHARMACIST could actually be liable for a misbranded prescription. It is not going to help the police case as the " customer " never actually purchased a controlled substance even though he had the " belief " there was a controlled substance in the bag. Then let's take it one step further. What if the pharmacist put the actual controlled substance into the bottle and didn't release it to the " Customer " until he was sure that the perp would be taken into custody immediately upon its receipt. Well, in that case the PHARMACIST could be liable for dispensing a controlled substance without a legal prescription. Either way, it can bite the pharmacist in the butt. IMHO, and what I practice now, is to call the police to notify them that we were presented with a fraudulent prescription for a controlled substance (still a felony in Florida) and let them nab the " customer " at the register when they come to claim the prescription. But we NEVER fill, or pretend to fill, the prescription. Just my 2 cents.......
