There may be some states that have no requirement at all and the employers would be glad to see a tech who is certified. The courts have ruled only PTCB and ExCPT as equivalent. NHA is NOT considered equivalent. I do not know what is or is not on the exam. But I have heard from one person in the last yeart that the NHA was easier, since that person had to take the PTCB for the state req that she moved to after taking the NHA. There are enough controversies over PTCB and ExCPT we really don't need to add another to it. So I stay away from discussing this exam. May I suggest that you as an instructor take the exam and build a review sheet for it. Guest guest Posted January 17, 2010 Report Share Posted January 17, 2010 Sorry to tell you that ONLY PTCB and ExCPT have beendeclared in a court of law to be equally used to yield CPhT behind ones name. NHA has not been deemed equivalent at this time. If any one has proof of any change since December 2008 please let me know. In addition you may be deemed a CPhT by the test or tests that YOUR state has ruled to be accepted. So just because the Fed court has ruled the two tests as equivalent, does NOT mean that your state has to use both, it can select to use one or the other or either. States have autonomy as long as they do not break fed law. States can be more stringent than fed law. The court ruled in favor of ICPT for the ExCPT test, over PTCE's desire to keep CPhT as a designation for its PTCB exam only. It did not review other exams. But you are right Karin, I will try to find that ruling. Perhaps I am wrong, but I recall following that and postihng about it very clearly at the time. As a side note I was told that CA was going do its own investigation into the psychometrics of both exams or at least that of ExCPT, before it would rule on accepting it or not. I can tellyou that my last visit there was about 1.5 yrs ago and they did have it then. But they have never been accredited by them before. Here is what we know UNTIL IVCPT's ExCPT was accredited by NCCA, ONLY PTCB was accredited by NCCA. This happend before the court ruling by the way. It was this accreditation of ExCPT and their use of CPhT that sparked the heat in court battle as to which of the two could call those that pass either exam Certified Pharmacy Technicians, thusly CPhT. PTCB fought that they were the first to use or coin the letters of distinction. ExCPT or ICPT people fought that it was a generic term like certified plumber and that the accreditation of the test and the acceptance of the test in the workplace is what matters. Example BS in Chemistry is general and yet a BS in Chemistry from MIT or UCLA or Stanford is much more impressive than one from Dominguez State College. I don't presume to speak for either group, but just recapturing a bit of history for the members . NCCA has ONLY accredited two tests for CPhT and they are in chronological order: PTCB's PTCE then ICPT's ExCPT For all reading this we always refer to the test as PTCB but it is really PTCE. The organization is PTCB. Since most people refer to the exam as PTCB this site does so also. Guest guest Posted January 21, 2010 Report Share Posted January 21, 2010 From the looks of things on that site, it appears that NHA does send Certfied Pharmacy Technicians Test Applicants to ICPT to take the ExCPT exam. I am hoping that ICPT representative, Ms Becky Rabbitt Pharm D. , will be reading this and give us a response. Would be interesting if there is a monetary connection between the two or if it is a professional courtesy (which means NHA endorses the ICPT exam " while " it is not offering one of its own). Looks like a professional courtesy, since one would pay ICPT directly. It could also be ICPT won a bid to place there re-directing link on that site. Should NHA ever offer its own test again and it become accepted by NCCA then that would be a different ball game. Thanks for spotting that and sharing!
