Guest guest
Hi Kris, Any employer would be glad to hire you. I find with our applicants that most of the younger ones are looking for temporary employment until something better comes along, aren't serious about being a pharmacy technician or just don't take the job seriously enough. When applications come through, I look for something there that says the applicant wants to " be a pharmacy technician " and knows just what that means. Go for it!! Good luck, -- To love what you do and feel that it matters - how could anything be more fun? -- Graham .. . . for my heart rejoiced in all my labour . . . Ecclesiastes 2:10 -------------- Original message -------------- From: k m <rx0007@...> Hi, Currently, I am a stay-at-home mom, but I am considering going back to school to become a pharmacy technician. My question is this... Am I too old to start a new career as a pharmacy technician? I am 50 years old. Would any employer hire a newbie of my age? I would really appreciate some feedback on this. Thank you. Kris

Guest guest
Dear Kris, I have had the honor and pleasure of teaching as young as 16 yr old high school student to 68 yr old Jamaican Pharmacist. Ihave a 95 % placement record here in California! I do not think you are too old at all. Depending upon your stte requirements for education or training it may be 6 months or 2 yrs of trainig or eduction. It may be NONE is required and trainingon the job. Most are looking for people who have dependable transportaion. are responsible to get to work on time and every day, honest,, capable of following directions and may be move on up to supervise. This sounds more like an older adult to me! It all depends how you sell yourself. They also look for agility: lost of physical movement. You call now! Guest guest
Kris, I know how you feel. I started school last May at age 52 and turned 53 in December. I was afraid of haveing to learn the metric system and math since I didn't do good in it when in school yearsssss ago. Like you I kinda figured the job market would rather have someone younger, but I have been told we are at an age where employers know they can depend on us. I suprised my self in school by having a 4.0 grade average and perfect attendance. In fact I hated to see the class part end. I'm in clinicals now and enjoy what I'm doing. Right now there is a demand for pharmacy technicians. Go for it girl. We are not ready for the rocking chairs yet. Still have a lot of good years ahead of us. Guest guest
Go for it. Pharmacy is my second career and I was almost 40 years old when I cross-trained and passed the PTCB. I volunteered to get some experience and I was sincere about it. Then I started working at a retail chain and then landed a job at the hospital. Blessings always come when you're sincere, honest and dedicated to whatever you do -- Sure, it is hard to compete with the younger ones but there are a lot of young employees with unstable mind-set, they are unreliable and abusive of sick-calls, they play when the cat is away, (not all, of course). I take my job seriously and never mess around with it.
