Guest guest
Hello Fellow Pharm Techs, Today I will receive my 3-month-on-the-job review from my PIC pharmacist and store manager. I was told by one of my co-worker pharmacists that basically it is the managements opinion that I need improvement in all areas, although he doesn't feel that way. I know I have made mistakes these last 3 months but have put into place my own remedies for these mistakes (only 1 suggestion came from my PIC and I have followed it religiously). They originally hired me to be the lead tech for the store, although I had only 4 months previous experience at a store. I was under the impression that I would be given time to build up my skills, however they have been expecting me to learn lead tech information as well as become skilled at regular tech skills. This has put tremendous pressure on me to perform. I am 57 years old and became nationally certified in July 2006 after taking a Pharm Tech course at the Career Education Institute. My rate of progress is being compared to one other tech who started at the same time, who is 18 years old. Apparently I am much slower to learn than she is, so they are dissatisfied. I was in a motorcycle accident on July 28, but only missed 1 day's work. I worked while in pain from a torn ligament, without medication which I was afraid would affect my performance. My PIC never called me after the accident to see how I was feeling and didn't tell the other techs on her shift that I was injured. I take no official breaks while working and hustle, hustle, hustle. My question is: Should I even be a pharm tech given the fact that I've made mistakes..... (once gave a customer the wrong medication bag and have had difficulty scanning some prescriptions at check-out.)????? Maybe I am just not going to be able to learn everything fast enough. Will I continue to make mistakes? I just don't know if I'm good enough or if my PIC has unrealistic expectations. By the way, other than the 18 year old newbie, all the other techs I'm working with have at least 5 years experience. I turned to this group for help when job hunting and the suggestions were terrific (I received 3 job offers). Can you give me some feedback on the issues in this email? I am just so very tired and discouraged about the job. Thank you, Signed JuneBug
