Guest guest
Please allow me to complete my thought: " However if one were to post " I had difficulty with questions that pertained to the Controlled Substance Act or controlled substances. " with the following phrase: " This would be acceptable since the exact question has not been revealed, nor have the possible answers. " Most likely the person who would have posted this would have been directed to a link or a tutorial on this site that explains the CSA or the CSA itself would have been summarized. This would allow the poster to further comment on a section without revealing the specific question. Let it be known that this site encourages users to post their study questions so that they can be tutored and mentored. Let it be known that SINCE the PTCB has gone to electronic testing that there have been less members posting their study questions. No one seems to know why or what the correlation significance means. However it is noted by moderator, owner and members alike. Also there has been less posting by those who have taken the exam after they have taken it. This site was use to groups of over 100 taking the exam at one time, returning to tell us about the day of hell and areas/topics of concern or difficulty. They also would mention the negatives of the testing environment. Since electronic testing there are less people taking the test on a specific given day. And there is less of a feeling of bonding and grouping. Since electronic testing is at a test center that has testing environment there is little chance for the need to report anything that is negative. Today, in 2007, more and more people join this site, and more leave right after they take the exam without any thank you or post. Let the above be known. Guest guest
Thats a big shame. Naplex had 91-96% passing rate last couple of years in Cali. WHile the old exam, had a 75% percent passing rate by students who attended a school in california and ONLY 40.9% by students who attended school outside of california. Those stats i remembered from reading an article a while back... I am not sure how exact they are. But, it's very dissapointing. I just hope test writers can just get to work and write some new questions. > > > > NAPLEX is the exam used to test Pharmacists for licensure in each > > state. Guest guest
Jeanetta, Unfortunately, the PTCB pass rate for the first cycle this year was 70% and the second cycle was 69% (or vise versa). The third cycle began last week. Guest guest
The fact that there is NO testing right now to license pharmacists means a new cause for shortage of RPh!!! The passing rates were all in the 90's that I saw with a few high 80's and a few 100's! You should OPEN up that link and check it out. If what you say is true, perhaps the integrity of the exam has been compromised across the US!!! On another note: Currently PTCB has a passing rate about 75 -80% through outthe years. IF it suddenly had a 90 to 100% passing rate we could say that some one has let the cat out of the bag or something has drastically changed. I am hoping that mandatory education would change those numbers. And when they do change and increase, I hope PTCB will then increase the difficulty of the exam. Guest guest
I don't see any evidence of NAPLEX being compramised nation wide. The passing rates have remained consistent from the data that I've seen, maybe slightly down actually in california. A drop of 5% last year. This is the data that I've seen. http://www.nabp.net/ftpfiles/bulletins/schoolpassrates.pdf I had the chance to speak to pharmacist who has taken NAPLEX and the old california exam. She told me that california exam was much much harder and had quite a few ridiculous questions that were pointless. It was cancelled because of the amount of complaints. I mean there is no reason why California should have 15-20 passing rate lower than the 49 other states. I always felt that making exams harder just because more people are passing them is highly unfair. Write new questions with same dificulty level if cheating is suspected. Same profession, same expectations of knowledge, and salary. WHy different exams? > > > > > > NAPLEX is the exam used to test Pharmacists for licensure in each > > > state. Guest guest
It might be back soon. NABP Cautiously Estimates November NAPLEX and Georgia MPJE Reinstatement NABP announced to its member boards of pharmacy on Thursday, August 30, 2007 that the NAPLEX and Georgia MPJE will be reactivated as soon as possible when NABP is confident that both examinations are able to validly assess the entry-level competence of pharmacists to safely practice pharmacy. NABP cautiously estimates that the examinations will be reinstated by early November 2007, following review and approval by NABP. Upon reactivation, the NAPLEX and Georgia MPJE programs will provide valid, psychometrically sound assessments of candidate competence and will embody the highest standards of testing that characterize and define NABP and its programs. This rapid reactivation timeline is possible thanks to the strength of the programs and processes that NABP has in place and despite these programs having sustained significant damage that may have completely destroyed other programs. This was posted on their website today: www.nabp.net > > Jeanetta, > Unfortunately, the PTCB pass rate for the first cycle this year was 70% and > the second cycle was 69% (or vise versa). Guest guest
Dear Yuriy, I was a technician delegate for CSHP during the time that the debate over to keep the current CA test or accept the NAPLEX for CA. We (RPh's and Techs) all voted to keep the current exam about 3 times in a row. At thsi time all Rx associations were collecting opinions via vote and discussions of members that are represented by the SBP to get the SBP to vote in the manner which the pharmacists wanted. In the end the state did what it had to do for financial reasons. These debates were highly controversial and HEATED. However we last heard from a states person who told us the MAIN reasons why they needed and wanted change: 1. Due to the shortage we could license pharmacists faster with the NAPLEX since it would be offered MANY times per year, opposed to the old (at that time current) CA exam that was being offered three or four times a year( can't recall the exact number). 2. The NAPLEX would cost less to administer 3. This would possibly KEEP graduates INSIDE Ca instead of moving. 4. The old test required hand grading on the essays, again which costs more. 5. The opposition that wanted to keep the then current exam contended that it was BETTER because it was harder because 1. It had MORE and better question that would discern ability to COMMUNICATE in all manners. The ESSAYS were the MAIN part of the exam that made it different. In addition there was a dispute about the psychometrics of the exam. 2. Those who wanted to keep the then current exam did not believe that NAPLEX was a sound exam by comparison. The statesperson conceded that the essays were a main difference, but continued to point out that the NAPLEX would be efficient and cost effective, and was working in other states just fine. While Californian RPh's stated that they had worked out of state and instate with many who had taken the NAPLEX only or both in state. They felt that they could tell the difference and gave many examples. To counter this many who had taken both the exams stated that they are not subpar pharmacists just because they passed the NAPLEX and did not take the CA exam and sited their examples of CA tested only RPhs who have made errors. Main pharmacy professors gave their pros and cons to change and differences between the exams. Finally CA voted to change to NAPLEX for COST EFFECTIVENESS and the QUANTITY of times the test could be administered. The older Ca exam was not removed because of the number of complaints! That pharmacist either does not know the real reason or is trying to sum up a very complicated decision for the action. Bottom line is ALWAYS money! FOLLOW THE MONEY! And YES there is a reason why CA had lower scores! the COMMUNICATION QUESTIONS and ESSAYS! Pointless questions? Hm.....did you know that any good exam worth its wt would have some unusual questions so that the integrity can be tracked??? This is part of psychometrics as well. The test was harder because it had additional types of questions/essays that other exams did not have. They are not equal tests, but in the end CA chose to substitute a more cost effective exam. END of STORY! NOW with this problem of NAPLEX, I would be my bottom last dime that if they can not get questions fast enough CA will come to the rescue with its old exams! MAYBE NOT with the communication questions, but the old questions. Then place them in electronic format. I see this happening for CA only and any other state that 'buys' from CA OR if CA decides to HELP OUT ALL of Naplex to get the tests going across the country. More than likely if the latter happens NO ONE will KNOW that CA did this! It will come from a committee that CA reps are on. Just my two cents!
