Guest guest
Hi I tried Baclafen two or three times. It didn't work for me. For me it zapped my strentgh. They kept on putting me on it to see if my body would eventually take to it. All I wanted to do was sleep. That was hard to do cause I was working (at that time) 40 hour weeks. They put me on tegretol for my muscle spasms and that worked great. I have been on it since 1987 @ 100 mg 3 or 4 times per day. Then when I started LDN last year my spasms eased up quite a bit so now I am only taking 1 to 2 pills per day. Hope this helps Marie ----- Original Message ----- From: low dose naltrexone Sent: Wednesday, June 30, 2004 10:59 PM Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] baclafen & zanax questions Does anyone out there have an opinion on baclafen and/or zanax? Guest guest
, The Baclophen will weaken your muscles and you certainly don't need that. The Zaneflex will definitely help with the spasms. There are very little negative side effects, I have been taking it for a year or so and it does help. Guest guest
I just read this and had to respond, yes the stiffness is bad in the A,M. but eases up in the evening usually. Have you or anyone else noticed a very big difference in the late P.M.? I stayed up quite late last night to watch the fireworks(yes we have them here in Canada too)and at about one o-clock I noticed that for the first time in years I was taking steps and raising my left leg! )What is with that? It came very naturally, just like I had not spent the last five years dragging it when I walked. Now it didn,t last very long, only like three minutes, but it was sure a treat! This morning I am back to normal ,for me, but I am sure looking forward to more of this. Is this what Relapsing Remitting M.S. is like? Am I slowly going back to where I started with this M.S. trip? Guest guest
I will say this again only because it is worth repeating as my brother hasn't walked ever since being put on baclofen. Now that is a problem with communication between him and his Dr. and should have been resolved sooner but now they have accepted the fact that he can no longer support himself on his own two legs. Of course this is my opinion only but I beleive that as soon as he couldn't stand, which just was days after the baclofen, maybe they should have researched other possibilities. Sure he is not on baclofen any longer but then he is also seven months on ldn too.And that was the first thing the nurses commented on that his Spasticity was way less on ldn vs. the baclofen. Guest guest
Hi Everyone is different and what works for one may not work for another. There is also a medication called Norflex. I tried norflex and zanaflex and they both worked in reverse of the way that they were suppose to. They both stiffened me up. The doctor told me that only about 10% of the people have this problem and I had it. I was walking like a scissors, I was so stiff. You need to find one that works for you. Guest guest
Reg, I've had that exact same experience...always at night. But lately, is so much less obvious and less often. It's kind of a tease, isn't it?I could almost dance thru the room at about 10pm and then in the am, it's the same old same old. My theory is that it's endorfins poppin' in to say hi. I drag my left leg and often it gets locked up and almost bends backwards... so I have to go very slowly, so that doesn't happen. That hurts like hell when it hyperextends back. Do you think any of these anti-spasticity meds help this condtion? I'm on week 6 of ldn. Since starting the ldn, I've unfortunately NOT gone backwards at all. But I'm going to persevere.(I also take copaxone..week 3) -------Original Message------- From: low dose naltrexone Date: Thursday, July 01, 2004 15:13:27 low dose naltrexone Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] baclafen & zanax questions I just read this and had to respond, yes the stiffness is bad in the A,M. but eases up in the evening usually. Guest guest
, I've been on baclofen for three years and :LDN for about six months,, I tried to go off baclofen once established on LDN but the spasms were still a problem, so I went back on baclofen with the LDN .... I have no problems takling them together. If you decide to go off baclofen to try LDN alone make sure to taper off the baclofen or you can get withdrawal symptoms (extreme spasms) Nicky ---- Original Message ----- From: low dose naltrexone Sent: Wednesday, June 30, 2004 7:59 PM Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] baclafen & zanax questions Does anyone out there have an opinion on baclafen and/or zanax? Guest guest
I take no other drugs and last night was no repeat, so no tease here, I wish I knew if a small amount of baclofen would help but I don't have to see my Dr. again till Sept. Still it is encouraging to know that all the old moves are still there and just waiting to reappear. The time of day/night may be coincindental.. but I'll tell you, I haven't had to sit down every 5 minutes since I started LDN in August of last year. On most days I can even go up the stairs with no problem (this is a 3 story house ). Hmm.. I've had RRMS for about 29-30 years (lost count, sorry <grin>). I've always had an attack or exacerbation and then either after some prednisone or whatever, it would go away and I'd be mostly my old self.. there was always some residual damage so to speak.. nothing huge, but I could feel it. The worst was the first time I got vertigo.. the damage there lasted quite a while but that was before I was seeing a good neuro..Eventually (when I could be brave enough to trust what the heck I was seeing <grin>) things returned to normal .. and vertigo when I get it now is more like a sinus headache to me these days.. The pills work.. it doesn't stick around long. > Am I slowly going back to where I started with this M.S. trip? > I hope so. > Reg. S.P.M.S. since 1997 3.0mgs ldn for three months now. Best of luck on your journey :) Take care, Janis

I have no problems takling them together. Guest guest
Reg, My doc gave me some samples of Keppra(levetiracetam). I'll let you know if I get some spasm relief from this. Everyones comments on baclefen made me decide to skip it. I hope this stuff is ok. -------Original Message------- From: low dose naltrexone Date: Friday, July 02, 2004 10:23:28 low dose naltrexone Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] baclafen & zanax questions I take no other drugs and last night was no repeat, so no tease here, I wish I knew if a small amount of baclofen would help but I don't have to see my Dr. again till Sept.
