Dear ,

a spansule has ben addressed here on this site for the November exam.

I just can not find the old post rightnow. A spansule gets its

name from a capsule that spans over time. Okay so this is like a

Contact capsule. Inside are several beads of drug. each are coated

with a special coating. Some beads may be of a different coating or

of a different size or color. The varying beads would 'open up' to

release the drug at specific intervals, so that the drugs in

sustained released.

Example:

Capsule carries large blue beads, medium red beads and small yellow

beads.

Small yellow beads open up now and get absorbed as if you took one

pill to last 8 hours. Sometime near the 8th hour the medium red beads

open up (or get broken down)and get absorbed as if you took the

second pill to last 8 hours. Some time near the 16th hour the large

blue pill opens up (gets digested / broken down) gets absorbed as if

you took the last pill to last another 8 hours. Therefore the beads

of drug spanned over 24 hours. he patient ionly has top take the

capsule or spansule one time a day, opposed to one cap three times a

day.

Dear ,

MgSo4 50% means 50gm in 100 ml of solution.

Threfore by ratio/proportion 50gm/100ml = 2 gm / Xml =

2 x 100 / 50 = 4ml

I think you mkay have found and error in the book. But I am

interested in knowing how you got 6ml and the book got 2.4 ml.

Hi -

While this particular problem is fairly easy to " do in your head " if

you're used to this stuff, I still like to use the percent solution

formula to double check my answers. As you can see the question

provides you with all the info you need to set up the equation---

Remember, tot.vol/% available= X/% of desired conc.

In this case: 1000ml/7%= X/3.5%

X=500ml

You'd do the same thing with the dextrose:

1000ml/30%= X/15%

x=500ml

You could also use this method to eliminate some of the choices

1000ml/10%= X/3.5%

X=350ml. Your two volume choices for Amino Acid 10% are 5ooml or

300ml--so you can elimate those two choices.

Dear Dora,

Thanks for posting your answer. Due to BDay and Valentines Day I took

a break. So I was not available to answer this.

Dora didn't we have this same problem before and we both answered it

from different angels? Perhaps in my private tutoring. Any way can

you do me a favor and run a quick check in the " Discucssions

Tutorials " and maybe some archives?! I tried but I may have missed

it. In the response that I gave I used allegation method AND the

V1xC1 = V2 x C2 Method. In addtion you and another person (I think

Della) also gave great answers and methodology. So I thought that I

had placed it the Discussion Tutorials, but i can not find it.

if you need any more on this let us know.

1 grain = 60 mg

1/2 grain = 30 mg
