PTCB,PTCE,EXCPT?... I replied on message: 17951 " December of last year or was it the year before? .....the courts deemed the two following exams acceptable and equivalent to certify pharmacy technicians nationally: PTCB's PTCE and ICPT's ExCPT Therefore there is no specific difference in the eyes of the law. However states still have a right to choose. Some states such as Oregon and NM use both, others use only PTCB such as Texas still others use no test and others use training or education instead of a test. Texas and CA are both independantly looking at offering ExCPT. First they have to find out on their own if they are equivalent or one better than the other. They are weighing all options. Beamoney much depends upon your state which one you will take. While the exam is the PTCE many people incorrectly call it the PTCB. Even I. The other exam is ExCPT, and is considered the new kid on the block. Both are now electronic. If your state accepts ExCPT, then go for it as it may be cheaper. Your employer has the right to ask for a specific exam in addition to what ever your state requires or allows. So technically if you live in Oregon, your employer could ask you to take the PTCB, even though you already took the ExCPT which the state allows. If that happened to me I would fight my case that the test I took is deemed equal by the court of law. If your state requires PTCB and your employer wants to give you an inhouse test to see if you pass it then they can and deny you a job or an interview if you do not pass it.
