Guest guest
Destiny: That is great that you are looking at going into the pharmacy field. By looking at your question I wasn't sure if you were wanting to become a technician or pharmacist? If you are wanting to become a pharmacy technician I would recomend the community school. This way you can interact with others who are persuing the same career choice. Usually the schools have an externship that will get you out there and place you into a pharmacy training pharmacy. You could also volunteer at many of the hospital pharmacies to see what area of pharmacy you would enjoy better. There are many areas of pharmacy to persue--it's just finding your nitch. Guest guest
" By looking at your question I wasn't sure if you were wanting to become a technician or pharmacist? " Thanks for the response. What I am wanting to do is become a pharmacist, but since I will need to support myself while I am going to school, I would like to do so as a pharmacy tech. That way I am already in the field before I begin work as an actual pharmacist. Destiny
Guest guest
Hi Destiny- Welcome to the group. I agree with for all the reasons stated. Here's another reason: its usually the most affordable option. Additionally, you have a bit more flexibility should you decide pharmacy school is not for you(gasp!:=})many of those credits you've earned will transfer to other healthcare ed programs. Sincerely, Dora

Guest guest
-Hi Destiny, Have you thought about applying for a job at a Walgreens pharmacy? They hire for the pharmacy & train you. You can start out as a pharmacy cashier and train as you go. You will be able to fill perscriptions as you learn. You do not (atleast here in Ohio) need to be 'certified' to become one of their technicians. (You do not need any previous experience.) Walgreens will pay for the schooling needed to become a tech, supply books and also pay for the PTCB test. It's an avenue that you might want to check into. Good luck Deedomwho P.S. Going to school at the pharmacy school of your choice is a great idea, but why not check out Walgreens also. This way it is a way to earn money for school & also learn more experience. -- In , " Abueg " <robinson_abueg@h...> wrote: > Hi Destiny, > > If you want to go to pharm tech school before you head to a PharmD program, > I recommend that you go to a community college that offers a pharm tech > program. Guest guest
Thanks everyone for the responses, I really appreciate it. I will make sure to check out walgreens. As far as where I will go to school, the school of Pharmacology at UT Austin is within miles of my house, so I will be going there.
