1) Order: Levophed drip 5mcg/min Available: Levophed 4mg/500ml 0.9% normal

saline solution. For how many ml/hr should the levophed infusion be set? My

Answer: 38 ml/hr

2) Nitroglycerin drip is to be infused at a rate of 8ml/hr. Available:

Nitroglycerin 100mg/250ml 0.9% normal saline solution. How many mcg/min is being

delivered? My Answer: 53 mcg/min

3) Order: Infuse a Nitroglycerin drip at 20mcg/min. Available: Nitroglycerin

50mg/250ml 0.9% normal saline solution. At how many ml/hr should the drip be

infused? My answer: 6 ml/hr

Many thanks for your earlier help. The book list only odd answers. Thus, I'm not

certain of these even number problem answers.

500ml/ 4mg  X  5mcg/min    X    1mg/1000mcg X 60min/1 hr = 37.5 ml/hr  can be

rounded to = 38 ml/hr

8ml/hr.  X 1hr/60min X 100mg/250ml X 1000mcg/1mg  =53.33 mcg/min can be rounded

to 53 mcg/min

 

3) Order: Infuse a Nitroglycerin drip at 20mcg/min.

Available: Nitroglycerin 50mg/250ml 0.9% normal saline solution. At how many

ml/hr should the drip be infused?  My answer: 6 ml/hr

20mcg/min X  250 ml/50 mg  X 60 min/hr  X  1 mg/1000 mcg  = 6 ml/hr
