So Alan, we are neighbors! I am in the Long Beach Orange county/La area.

Where are you?

Did youtake the PTCB and get registered or did you go via military? or move

Just curious, not too many are hired on via self study and PTCB alone in Ca.

I am in Huntington Beach.

Got registered first two years ago before the change. My Chem Eng degree

got me the CA license. Took the PTCB exam in July 2004. Was hired by Savon

the next month and have been working at a 24 hour store in Newport Beach ever

since.

Dear , You are one curious cat! So you wnat to go back to retail from

This book is a great review. I have been out of pharmacy for about 10 years

dear jeanetta,

I think education should be manadatory, I think you can get more out of it,

and not just know names of drugs. I think the program I went through was a good

program. the first quarter, you were bascially just learning about everything,

then if you passed that then you got to learn more about the it, and then we

also had lab time where we praticed filling drugs, making iv's, learning a

computer system, it was kind of a mini pharmacy. then in our 3 rd quarter, we

went and did the real thing, we had 6 weeks in hospital and 6 weeks in retail,

then after that we graduated. there are only 2 programs in spokane, 1 from SCC

and the other was appolo college, Applo started doing theres about 3 or 4 years

after SCC, when going to hire somone, more people prefer a SCC person, cause

they provided a better schooling, at least that is what i am told, the Applo

cost more and give you less info. I think they help prepare me. I don't live

in Spokane right now, but am looking to move back, if i

can find a job there. The one interview i went to, she said 1 applicant gets

at least 30 people have applied, where as the Seattle area, is lucky to get half

that. There is not much on the job training in Spokane, unless your Walmart,

they rather hire within the store first, before taking anyone with experience.

Anyways, thats just my 2 cents worth.

Dear Darlene,

You are most welcome to any information that I can provide!

Sorry about the ink!:)

I thank the active membership and those along with the TEXPERTS for their

input and helping to inform and address many issues that are raised on this

site. I thank the silent/lurking membership as well, because the numbers let us

know that there are many who learn from the site and read continuously even

though they do not post often or at all.

Your appreciation is 'appreciated' by me ( and Dora). We have worked hard

long hours to get it to where it is now and how it runs more smoothly than it

did 3 years ago. Yet it seems like there is still so much more that needs to

be done.

Your individual membership is important to me.

Thank YOU,

Dear Barbara,

GOOD to hear from you! been wondering how things in TN have been going since

they now allow techs to take orders over the phone with the RPh approval.

What is your take on this? Your first hand input, knowledge and perspective

would be most interesting to many of us.

I am VERY GLAD to hear that you SUPPORT mandatory education. I am also glad

that you can tell the difference between an accredited school graduate and a

non - acredited school grad. One of the biggest problems is that there is NO

Standardized Education in the US and no standard qualifications . I have been

working on this for a long long time. Some times I feel like I am spinning my

wheels. But I am very determined to make a difference.

Wondering if you really felt that some student externs were 'really dumb' or

if they were not fully educated or if they just 'did not have what it takes to

learn'? Any comments? Very interested in YOUR perspective on this topic.

Thanks

Respectfully,
