I recommend going to a public librarey and checking out a book or two

and using this site!

Also you can go to home page, files, File #2 Books and Study Guides

Review by Jeanetta and then surf net for best $$$ bargan deals.

Hi, Jeanetta,

My name is Arlene and I live in Michigan. I recently took the

Certification test for Pharmacy Technician. I FAILED!!! It was not at

all what I was told would be on the test. I was told that it would be a

combination of what I was taught in school. Boy, was I fooled. It was

ALL math. I am not that good in math and I freeze when I have to take

major tests. How can I study the math part and retain it for the next

time I take the test. The books at the library help a little. HELP

PLEASE. [(:|] [:-/]

Dear Arlene,

First og all I am very sorry that you did not pass.

I would like to know if you were able to use my site at all, or if

you got to it after you took the exam or ??

IF you got to my site after you took the exam, may I ask how you

found out about it?

The test does have a balance of questions on it. However more people

complain about the amount of math than any thing. I usually state on

this site and in my live classes that the test will have about

1/3 math, 1/3 law, and 1/3 miscellaneous.

What ever is our weakest area is what we will perceive on any test to

be the hardest or asked in a larger quantity. So if you find math

difficult or causing you anxiety then you will perceive the test to

have more math than someone who is comfortable with math.

Now all that being said, Please allow me to extend any help that I

can. I do offer private email tutoring but I personally believe that

if you post your questions that you are helping everyone else too. I

figure if you have a question so does at least one other person!

The math tutorials on my site are made by me. They can be used over

and over again. I have quizzes online as well. I use the same methods

and presentation in my live classes. Most people who have posted

about my tutorials usually post that the math tutorials have helped

them the most. Perhaps someone out there reading this will share here

on post with you which tutorials have helped them the most. Recently

one shared in the last week or two that the alligation tutorials help

him/her the most. So that message is recent. But it is best to hear

from your peers rather than me.

But to find the math tutorials go to the HOME page, find the yellow

menu to the left, click on " Files " , scroll to Folder #5. click on it,

scrol to the Math Tutorials. You will also find some math on retail

and IV math with in those files and the quiz files.

I would suggest purchasing a good study guide book or two. Use the

books and when you get stuck to to my tutorials. If you are still

stuck post your questions or email me.

Can you tell me if you were taught IV's in your school? Were you

taught alligations? Dilutions or TPN's?

I hope this helps. You are very brave and honest to post of your non-

pass. I am very interested in your actual score. Please email me

privately on that.

I KNOW you can do this! If you completed the school I am sure you can

pass the exam. Did you do an externship? hospital or retail? Does

your state require PTCB? Which state are you in?

Do not give up!

Study conversion factors, then ratio/proportion, pricing math, then

alligations and branch out from there to hospital math.

I hope this helps you and reassures you. The site is right here, I am

not going anywhere.

Hi, this is Arlene. I heard about you the day of my exam. I really don't

remember how I received your website, but I wish I would of found it way before

my exam. The exam that I took was 95% math, no law, no misc. My main area of

help is in the math department. No I was not taught IV's,alligations, dilutions

or TPN's. I did my externship in a retail store. The reason for that is the

school has contacts mainly in the retail setting. I do not know if the state of

Michigan requires the PTCB, but I still would like to have Cpht after my name.

Thank you for being there. I will definately be going to your website to learn

more.

Sadly there ARE schools out there that teach only retail AND there

are retail chains that ONLY TRAING retail. So this does not prepare

the tech for ALL types of pharm tech work and is NOT fair! The time

spent in training at a chain or time and money spent in a school just

is nto fair if you are not getting all that you need to succeed as a

technician.

I want you toknow that ALl schools that are ASHP accredited MUST

teach IV and RETAIL so if your school claims that it is ASHP

accredited please email me privately and I will turn in the school

for you or you can call ASHP and report them.

I also want you and others to know tha tMANY schools that are not

ASHP accredited still follow ASHP guidelines or beyond!

Accreditation is an insurance that what you need is being taught.

YES this site can help you with the math. Please go to the Files

section then Tutorial section 5th Folder, then the Math Tutorials.

Study with two study guide books and this site, post your questions

about anything you still do not understand.

I'll / we'llbe right here waiting to help ya!

HI fellow CHPT's,Michigan does not require PTCB right now but it looks like its

in the works for 2010.  Almost all retail chains here pay about $1.00 hr more

for CPHT but still pay terrible  (average about $11.50).  I took the test after

a few weeks on the job using the local college books available.  I passed easily

but I am sure that is because I have a heavy math background (calculus III).  I

have heard that there is a effort in progress to separate the test into retail

vs hospital since the majority of us are in retail and will never use the math

we learn for the  PTCB test.    I often wonder how people make the switch to

hospital pharmacy.  Unless you have taken a course that covers IV/COMPOUNDING

internship (my local college does but the course takes a year and costs $ 3500

and you have to be in the program to take the course.  How is that course down

in Houston offered by NAPT?  Worth the time and money?  How about the APHA DVD

and

companion book?
