I see that you have found some posts relating to your exact question.

I think yoiur idea of volunteering is a great one.

I think it will be necessary in the near future ( 2 -7 yrs) that all

accredited distance learning also hook up students with or have the

students find their own externships. And that these externships be

monitored just like physcial classroom schools have to monitor their

extership sites. So you are doing the RIGHT thing! Glad to see you

understand the need for hands on training in addtion to the didactic

portion of education.
