Guest guest
Dear and All, As I am sureyou already know, No more BS in Pharmacy will be issued in the US. All new graduating pharmacists in the US must be Pharm D's. Any pharmacist from another country has to take various exams to prove communication in Engilish both in writing and in oral /verbal. In addition they must take tests to prove their pharmaceutical and pharmacy knowledge. And this is only allowed of the foreign pharmacists who are educated in countries an din universities that the US recognizes as meeting the same or similar standards of education as the US. Some of these pharmacists who will be permitted to take the exams will only be allowed to practice as a BS Pharmacy pharmacist in the US which is in the capacity of a non-clinical pharmacist. Others will be allowed to pracitice as a Pharm D, depending upon the eduction. All will also have to take licensing and jurisprudence exams for the state that t hey will be practiciing in. In the duration of study and applying to take such exams and qualifying some become and practice pharmacy as pharmacy technicians. To show seriousness to future employers, many want to take the PTCB exam, of course some will reside in a state in which it is mandatory. Some will teach pharm tech programs, in the interim. Many will become techs just to stay in the field and or to learn the American ways of doing things, some will practice as a pharmacy technician and because they love pharmacy, even though many could make more money doing other things while studying for the4 exam.. This process can take up to 4 yrs to complete. I have met many determined foreign pharmacists, who throught their own perseverence are successfully practicing in the US today. Some foreign pharmacists have to return to school iin the US to become Pharmacists in the US. During our shortage of pharmacists we will see more foreign pharmacists sit for the various exams necessary to qualify to take licensing exams and becoming pharmacists.
