Sammy,

The rule is all 3.

You just have to look at which one is in context with the question you are

dealing with.

1 grain can equal:

65 mg

60 mg

64.8 mg

A regular aspirin is 5 grains or 325 mg. But some Phenobarbital tabs that

are 1 grain are 60 mg.

Not that this helps, but it can be any of the three.

1 grain=? mg

Jeanetta:

How are you? Would you please help me with this math conversion?

1 grain=60mg,65mg,or 64.8mg? What is the rule?

Dear Sammy.

While there is NO " one " rule, there are a couple of " rules of thumb "

that may help you.

If the last number is a five such as 325 mg then use the 65 mg/grain.

65 mg.......325 mg

--------- = ------ = X gr

1 grain.....X grain

cross multiply:

1 x 325

------- = X gr = 5 gr

65

If the last number ends with a zero it could be either a 60 or 65 mg:

Example 1:

Order is 300 mg

60 mg.....300mg

------ = -------- = X gr

1 gr......X gr

Cross multiply:

1 x 300

--------- = X gr = 5 gr

60

Example 2:

If 260 mg is ordered:

60 mg.....260mg

------ = -------- = X gr

1 gr......X gr

Cross multiply:

1 x 260

--------- = X gr = 4.33 gr

60

OR

65 mg.....260mg

------ = -------- = X gr

1 gr......X gr

Cross multiply:

1 x 260

--------- = X gr = 4 gr

65

Ultimately YOU cannot decide what the equvalent factor is, but he

drug company can.

64.8 is the most accurate number to use, but most pharmaceutical

companies just use 60 opr 65 mg/1grain.

I hope that this helps you.
