Guest guest
When I was younger, way before my state decided that tech's had to be licensed I worked at a mail or pharmacy, and now that Im older Im back in that same type of field.. I deal with dr's, rx's and basic pharm knowledge everyday, and Im taking the test on July 17th. Its just a few weeks away and I know the basics, I know a little about everything but not all of anything if that makes any sense... My question is Im studying, studying and studying and some things just arent staying with me... When dooms day arrives and Im in there about to take the test, in your opinion what is the most important thing to be sure of? Hospital? Retail? Brand-Generic? Math? Im struggling knowing I wont be able to know everything, stressing over what I should know more... Thanks for any advice..
Guest guest
I think the best advise anyone could give you is just to relax. You know more than you think you do. Everyone I know who took the test went in thinking that they didn't really know anything. When I took the test I found it pretty easy and got finished before anyone else in the room did and I was sure that I didn't get the whole test. ~ crazy but I think your mind plays tricks on you at a stressful time. You will do fine, just keep studing and don't concentrate on any ONE thing too much, cause it is gonna cover pretty much a little bit of everything. Don't burn yourself out, just relax and when you go in there for the actual test, just remember to breath and trust your first instict, don't overthink things or try to make them more difficult than they are. Good luck on your test.. pam cpht texas JUSTIN <toplessamigo@...> wrote: When I was younger, way before my state decided that tech's had to be licensed I worked at a mail or pharmacy, and now that Im older Im back in that same type of field.. Guest guest
Dear Pam/finstonefreek, Yes good advice also is to relax, and one who always makes a point of mentioning this is my moderator extraordinaire, Dora . She is off camping and getting back into work upon her return. Otherwise she just may have beaten you to the punch on this topic! You are correct, absolutely! Rest and Relaxation are good for recall of details and knowledge. The fact that the test will cover a bit of everything is one thing that I can not stress enough also! Good point! This site has a tendancy to discuss much math because that is the area that seems to give most a problem. However ALL areas pertaining to pharm teching will be questioned in the PTCB. Guest guest
Dear , I cannot tell you that there is one area that you will be tested on over another. PTCB officials claim that the test is on a bit of everything. While I agree with this, I also agree with Karin that it will 'feel' as though your weakest area was what was asked the most. This is just the way it gets reported to me/us here on this site. (See post from Karin) But I will say this you should try very hard to conquer math and law. Those are the areas that you may use the least of on the job skills. In other words, trade/generic/classifications are used daily as a tech in performing tasks. Math is used but may be done by a pharmacist or computer and while law dictates what you can and can not do, sometimes policy is interpreted as law, when it is not. So know these two areas for sure, as they tend to be the weakest areas for most techs. (These are my added words of advice). Working of the retail and hospital work flow, operations etc will be asked, but you have the experience to fall back on to help you answer those questions. Above all get the rest that you need to take the test on a fresh awakening and clear mind. (see post from Pam) In addition you can check out the guidelines from the PTCB site as to what is on the test. This may help you to assess what areas you may need to study.
