Guest guest
Hi Codeblu44662, In general on a multiple choice question such as this, you can always exclude any answer that calls for the technician and/or pharmacist to recap a needle. That just isn't done for a variety of safety reasons. ********************************************************************************\ ** #99 hazardous After syringes are used for preparation of hazardous substances the pharmacy tech should recap the needle and place it in the Sharp's container c) place the syringes in a sealed plastic bag an dispose in special waste
Guest guest
Hi codeblu You wouldn't want to pick option " C " either because you would never put sharps into a soft sided plastic bag. Now the question says " syringes " and doesn't specifically mention needles---however most pharmacies I know of still use a needle to get the chemo in the bag, and we all learn early on in our IV training that one should not recap a needle. When presented with multiple choice answers regarding hazardous materials your best bet is to choose the answer that would be most likely to ensure the safety of person mixing or administering the chemo. I'd like to see what your other options were. Guest guest
Hi Karin- I have a question for you. I understand that you don't come in contact with body fluids, but you're still working with hazardous materials when you're mixing chemo. Why can't you put the syringe in the sharps container? What do the nurses do on the floors after giving and IM or SQ? Do they recap their needles so they can remove it from the syringe and toss the needle in the sharps container? Is it OK for the nurses to toss syringes w/ needles in the sharps, but its not OK for pharmacy to do the same? It just sounds like there's a safety issue at hand. Please enlighten me. Thanks for the info, Dora Hi Codeblu44662, > In general on a multiple choice question such as this, you can always exclude any answer that calls for the technician and/or pharmacist to recap a needle.
