Guest guest
Dear All, If you " think " you know an answer that is one thing, but if you definitely know an answer that qualifies you to respond. I take care of maintaining accuracy of this site. I pride in the fact that I have TEXPERTS who I know and trust to have the correct answer IF I do not know the answer or can not get to the net in time. It is NOT ACCEPTABLE TO BEND,CRUSH OR RECAP A NEEDLE IN ANY STATE. Now if your job requires this then I will not argue policy, but I will argue CORRECTNESS AND LAW. The correct answer is: PLACE THE NEEDLE AND SYRINGE IN A SHARPS CONTAINER!!! There are times when recapping may be required in making and then delivering a syringe... but recapping is not considered safe practice for at lest 10 years if not longer. 14. Which of the following correctly describes the manner in which records of the receipt and disposition of all controlled substances must be kept? Now regarding questions #14, I can not answer this question because I have no clue what they are asking or talking about. I have no experience with handling disposition of Narcs or controlled substances. I call upon my TEXPERTS who may have an answer and can confirm the one given by phbee_kc. 15. A person who cannot tolerate nsaid medication for dental pain may take: The CORRECT ANSWER is Tylenol = APAP = acetaminophen = N-acetyl P- amino phenol. HOWEVER the patient will get little anti-inflammatory effect. It will not be able to address all types of pain. As far as ASA = acetylsalicylic acid = aspirin or willow bark extracts This too is an type of an NSAID. But it can not be given to one who is allergic or one who can not tolerate NSAIDS because the pt will most likely have the SAME reaction. The usual reaction is GI irritation, GI ulcers/bleed. They are anti-platelet as well. 16. What is the recommended storage temperature for penicillin G procaine? One MUST BE SURE THAT THEY ARE SPEAKING OF THE SAME DRUG! NOT ALL PCN ARE CREATE EQUAL!!! Pen G Procaine is different than Pen G benzathine injectable suspension. In addition the exact temperature is more than likely going to be asked not room temp, refrigeration or freezing. " " HOW SUPPLIED (PCN Gbenzathine) Bicillin® L-A( penicillin G benzathine suspension) is supplied in packages of 10 TUBEX® Sterile Cartridge-Needle Units as follows: 1 mL size, containing 600,000 units per TUBEX® (21 gauge, thin-wall 1 inch needle for pediatric use), NDC 0008-0021-37. 2 mL size, containing 1,200,000 units per TUBEX® (21 gauge, thin-wall 1-1/4 inch needle), NDC 0008-0021-35. Store in a refrigerator. Keep from freezing. " " " " PENICILLIN G PROCAINE (aqueous) Storage / Stability: The dry powder is stable and does not require refrigeration. Sterile solutions may be kept in the refrigerator for 1week without loss of potency. Solutions prepared for IV infusion are stable at room temperature for 24 hours. Premixed, frozen solution: Thaw frozen container at room temperature (25°C;77°F) or in a refrigerator (5°C; 41°F). Do not force thaw by immersion in water baths or by microwave irradiation. The thawed solution is stable for 24 hours at room temperature or for 14 days under refrigeration. Do not refreeze thawed antibiotics. " " " Penicillin G Procaine Storage / Stability: Store in the refrigerator (2° to 8°C; 36° to 46°F). Keep from freezing. " The above is from my F & C Online and 2000 hardback! The latter is pre- filled tubex injectable, while the first one is dry powder for reconstitution. Wycillin is the old trade named for the PCN G Procaine which is already in for intramuscular injectable syringes. But if you are making an infusion then you will probably use the dry powder form, which is also referred to as (aqueous) . (Go figure. Note the average refrigeration of 41 degrees F or 5 degrees C is being used for the PCN G Procaine. Please people this is way TOO CLOSE to the exam to be playing a guessing game. Please leave all that you would have to " question " to those in the know. Even if that means that the question is left unanswered. I am not trying to hurt anyone's feelings. I am stating again what I have stated in my rules for this site. Everyone can answer - not just the owner/moderator or TEXPERTS, BUT ONLY ANSWER IF YOU KNOW FOR CERTAIN. This site is dedicated to keeping the discussion of I think this no I think that down to a min. You usually will see this only when even the TEXPERTS can not agree. And it is in a gray area and it has been discussed and investigated. This would be rare. Sometimes we make mistakes because we are human. But if we make them because we believe something is true that is one thing. But if we make them because we are not sure or have not investigated something that is another. Discussion that is centered around 'belief' and not fact may lead others to believe what they read here and not check back later to find the correction or truth. So there may be someone who has read that a specific answer is what has been written, then they will get it wrong on an exam if they do not get a chance to check back. I recommend that unless Dora or I have written something on the subject that you wait for our response, or that of our resident pharmacist Della or any other TEXPERT such as , Trisha, Anne, Barry, etc. Thank you all for your understanding and co-operation.
