Guest guest
Advice for working in a retail pharmacy would be-> excellent people skills. Give good eye contact, great active listening, attentive body language, smile, care and quickly/carefully do what is needed in the context of the customer coming 1st, while doing what is -> required within the pharmacy. I have found even if I didn't have all parts of what was asked of me by a customer on the phone, at the drop off, or at the register-> showing I care, being confident, having a sense of urgency (because the pharmacy is busy, and the customer's time is valuable)seems to assist in the most positive ways. I've found when any assoc. lacks people-skills, situations get unnecessarily chaotic. It's a nasty chain reaction among the customers (and their perception of what is happening " back there " ). It's also affects the associates. So be your charming self, and you're good-> and all else will happen as you need it to (smiles). Giving warmth and respect not only will satisfy and please your customers, but your coworkers will feel the good effects of your upbeat skills as well. When rapport is built between you and the customer/patient your job will become a place that you will enjoy more too. > > > > From: crystal zamudio <czamudio18@...> > Subject: advice > jeanettasPTCBstudygroup > Date: Thursday, September 10, 2009, 9:37 AM > hi everyone i havent been on here..been taking care of my 5 month old baby...so here's the deal....i might start working at a pharmacy next week..finally its been a little more than year since i havent worked . but i feel a little bit nervous i really want to impress them.....does anyone have some good advice for me.. anything specific i should know. im pretty much a rookie..ive only had 3 months experience in a pharmacy. Guest guest
I am about ready to graduate and start my internship, but I do have retail experience in other fields. All I can say is first of all, try to relax, double check everything, listen to your customers along with your RPh, and techs. Just remember, be kind, courteous and passionate in our profession, and above all have faith in your abilities. Make sure that if there is anything you have a question about, ask your pharmacist. Good luck, and congrats on your new baby. Guest guest
Do you mean Free T4 at 7.2 - and if the answer is yes, then this is far too low. Bet they didn't test your Free T3 did they? It does appear that you need more Armour Thyroid so I would be tempted to increase this by half a grain. How do you come to taking " 105 mg of Armour). Armour is in tablets of 1 grain (60mgs) or 2 grains (120mgs) and if you are taking 1 1/2 grains, that would mean you are taking 90mgs. Hope this helps. Luv - Sheila Hi all, I have just received my results for thyroid and they read as follows:- TSH 7.2 and TSH almost undetectable at 0.05 - is the T4 a little low here - I feel as though I am low T4 but there again if I am showing TSH low is it that I am not converting - I am on 105 mg of Armour by the way and 20 mg cortisol. Guest guest
Hi there Taking 105 mg as had some odd 30s and 15 left over from when I was starting out on Armour and 120mg seemed to be too high and dropped down to 105 by taking 3 x 30 mg and a 15 cos 100 was not enough. I didnt feel like I was on too much at 120 mg but for flying off handle but there again that could be too low - I am starting to exercise as well now so that might bring me down even lower. What is the optimum T4 level - can anyone tell me. Thanks for help regards Mandy

Guest guest
I would keep going until it has been resolved. You may want to do an iodine loading test w/ bromide levels when you are about to reduce your dose to see what your status is. Guest guest
i'm sorry i can't help with what you can get put in your records but for now maybe that should be the least of your concenrs. you sound as if you are suffering with low adrenal reserve...being shattered for days after an exercise session is a classic low adrenal symptom. if you look in the files section under adrenals, you will find some questionnaires regarding the adrenals...your answers will give very good feedback to see what state you are in. as a first pass though to support your adrenals you need to take what might be construed as mega doses of vitamin c ...however don't take it all in one go, you could try something like half a gram every three or four hours. the adrenals are the biggest user of vit c and as you probably know, the human body has lost the ability to make this vitamin for itself so it has to come from outside. another easy thing to do (providing you don't suffer with salt dependent high blood pressure) is to take 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of unrefined sea salt (celtic sea salt is excellent) first thing in the morning...the adrenals need unrefined salt. they also need good quality saturated fat ...not a huge amount but they do need some. you could try organic butter or organic virgin cold pressed coconut oil for example. if you can start the vit c immediately you will very quickly notice a difference in your teeth/gums ...i suffered rampant peridontal disease until i started taking high dose vit c a couple of years ago after reading on here that the adrenals needed vit c. untreated and undertreated thyroid disease puts a huge amount of stress on the adrenal system ....the adrenals to their level best to try and support/compensate for the failing area...until it all just becomes toooo much and everything really starts to fall apart! (that's my experience anyway). the good thing is that vit c, salt and saturated fat will have an almost instant benefit ...however it takes a goodish while to get to adrenal fatigue state and it can also take a goodish while to get really well. there are many other things to do to support the adrenals ...a saliva test is a good place to start because that way you will know how they are doing and at what times of the day they are over or under active ...there is a link in the files to genova testing and that gives all the information you need plus a good discount for tpa members. >a rising TSH, family history of thyroid/autoimmune problems, low temperature and multiple classic hypo symptoms. have you got some test rsults to post up (please include reference ranges too). you gp's idea that your symptoms are in your head just demonstrates her pitiful ignorance and failure as a doctor ...did she offer you anti-depressants? are you on any medication now? have you been tested for hashimoto's (auto immune thyroid disease) your sinisitus sounds very painful and that must be stressful too. if you have had loads of antibiotics then your gut will almost certainly have got out of balance in terms of good and bad bugs...taking probiotics will help restore the balance. an imbalance gives candida a chance to overgrow and then that stops thyroid hormones working properly. good for your sister for staying with you and to you, courage mon brave! best wishes trish > > I'd like to know what information I can request to be put into my medical records? After seeing my own records it's pretty clear that my GP states that I'm 'fatigued and listless' and doesn't mention the phenomenal list of all my ongoing, worsening symptoms - too numerous to mention, but which include a rising TSH, EDITED by moderator to remove remainder of previous message. Guest guest
You need to put all of this into a letter and send it to your GP and request that this letter of information with requests be placed into your medical notes. You should send a copy of your letter to your Head of practice and keep a copy of it yourself in case you need to use it later. Be sure to date the letter. List all of your symptoms and signs and check these against those in our web site under 'Symptoms and Signs' in the 'Hypothyroidism' Tag. List your basal temperature taken before you get out of bed in a morning and before you have anything to eat or drink for 4 or 5 days if these are less than 97.8 F (36.6 degrees C) or less. List any members of your family who have a thyroid or autoimmune disease. List the blood tests you would like to be done which would be the full thyroid function tests available. These are TSH, free T4, free T3, TPO Ab and TgAb to see whether you have antibodies to your thyroid. List also the following specific minerals and vitamins you would like tested to see whether any of these are low in the reference range@ ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc. Should any of these be low in the reference range, your thyroid hormone cannot be fully utilised at the cellular level until whatever is low has been fully supplemented. Anticipate that your GP will tell you that there is " no association " between these specific vitamins, minerals and thyroid, and add into your letter the following references to the research and studies to show that there is: Low iron/ferritin: Iron deficiency is shown to significantly reduce T4 to T3 conversion, increase reverse T3 levels, and block the thermogenic (metabolism boosting) properties of thyroid hormone (1-4). Thus, iron deficiency, as indicated by an iron saturation below 25 or a ferritin below 70, will result in diminished intracellular T3 levels. Additionally, T4 should not be considered adequate thyroid replacement if iron deficiency is present (1-4)). 1. Dillman E, Gale C, Green W, et al. D3 levels need to be about 50.  Magnesium levels need to be at the top of the range, it's one thing that gets missed a great deal. Ask for the results of these to be made available to you together with the reference range for each of the tests done. Anything else you want to mention that you have written about below, add into your letter. Ask that the letter be placed into your medical notes. Doctors cannot withhold any information that is in your medical notes from you under the Data Protection Act 1998. Patients are often given a diagnosis of fibromyalgia (FM), Me and CFS when a patient is presenting with all the classic symptoms and signs of hypothyroidism, yet their thyroid function blood tests are within the so called 'normal' reference range, and the doctor therefore has no idea what is wrong with them. These diagnoses first showed up after all patients with hypothyroid symptoms were treated with natural desiccated porcine thyroid extract that contains all the thyroid hormones t4, t3, t2, T1 and calcitonin, when the synthetic levothyroxine (T4-only)  was manufactured. Those patients who needed the active thyroid hormone T3 suddenly were not getting it any more, so they started showing all their symptoms again. Patients started to be told they were suffering with CFS, ME and FM - all of which can be treated successfully in a lot of cases with T3 - which is being virtually banned by the BTA. Jo, stop worrying about your GP and whether she is happy or not - We are not here to make our GP happy, our GP is here to make us better, whether they like it or not. I would be tempted to ask such a GP whether she was doctoring because of the huge salary she gets - or whether she actually DOES care about finding the cause of her patients suffering. OK - will step down from my soap box and leave it to somebody else ;o) Luv - Sheila  I have been told I have CFS which seems to have very similar symptoms to hypothyroidism. Can I compile a list of all my symptoms and ask my GP to put this in my medical records? Suffice to say that she is far from helpful - example, I have chronic sinusitis and atrophic rhinitis which is so bad that my nose bleeds everyday now and antibiotics don't touch it. It's now affecting my gums causing pressure and pain, plus my gums are gradually receding on the upper left side of my mouth and causing ear pain/pressure too. I'm seeing my dentist today to get to the bottom of this. Last year I mentioned this to my GP who told me that sinuses don't affect teeth or gums, and she knew this because her sister is a dentist? After doing some research myself, it would seem my GP doesn't know what she's talking about, so I don't have much faith in what she says at the best of times. She is very dismissive of me at times, and when I recently took my sister along as a witness, the GP told my sister to go and wait in reception. My sister refused, and I said I hadn't brought her to the appointment with me so that she could go and wait outside. My GP was not happy. Guest guest
Hi again What jumped out to me was the probable need for progesterone - have you been reading the recent posts on that? I had really bad fibrocystic breast disease and pre-menopausal heavy bleeding. That was 2004, but what cured the FBD and made me go through a real easy menopause - no hot flashes at all, was adding iodine (7 to 10 kelp pills a day and 1 Prolamine Iodine) and religiously applying progesterone cream once or twice a day. I have figured out that they're down on kelp and Prol. Iodine here, but I think you'll do even better with the higher doses of iodine from Iodoral. Think (read) about estrogen dominance and progesterone cream. I used Emerita Progest and Source Naturals progesterone cream. The FBD never came back since 2004, but that routine and LDN have not helped my 7.1 cm goiter. That's one reason I'm here and doing this Iodine protocol. I started June 1 on 12.5 mg Lugols. I'm now up to 90 mg / day, 1 50 mg Iodoral with Lugols for the rest. My goiter is feeling smaller. If you haven't tried progesterone cream yet, I recommend it for some of your problems. Hopefully enough iodine will help both our goiters. I gained 20 lbs with menopause, then added the kelp, Prol Iodine and a 500 mg Green Tea cap / day, and the 20 lbs came off in the next year without dieting. Now I weigh what I did when I was 15 - I'm 62. I think those things helped. Wishing you success on your journey to better health, Karyn > > I want to give some background and ask for advice. > > Fibrocystic Breast Disease - diagnosed by a thermogram (asymptomatic) > Multi-nodular Goiter - I was told that the I have the longest thyroid they have ever seen > One big nodule - biopsied 6-7 years ago - really hasn't changed much since the biopsy (not cancer) > " Normal " labs, but I don't have a copy of them to determine if they are mainstream normal AND realistic normal. I should get a copy. > Can't lose any weight - paleo diet (no grains, legumes, little dairy, little fruit) - good exercise with strength training. I am about 20 pounds or more overweight. Endo doc told me to exercise more and eat less....grrrr. I don't believe in the calories in vs. calories out theory. I also didn't lose a single pound on a ketogenic diet for 2 months. > Age - 42 > Long periods (heavy the first few days and then spotting for up to 17 days) > > I take all of the companion nutrients and many other supplements. I took iodoral last year, but I got nervous and stopped. My ND is warming up to it, but wants me to use 4 prolamine (12mg) per day. I really respect her on most things, but not this. So, today I am up to 40 mg and just switched to Iodoral. > > Thoughts? Just asking if I am on the right track. Will this shrink my goiter, help me lose weight, get rid of the FBD? BTW, I am very anti-mainstream medicine, so I am inclined to skip this year's US and bloodwork, but part of me is curious. How long would it take to notice any difference from the Iodine. > > I appreciate anyone that is willing to comment on my current status. Nothing is life threatening or urgent, and I generally feel well. After starting the iodine, I have been very tired - hopefully this is a good thing. My ND says that she has discovered aluminum, mercury, and lead that I need to detox, so she gave me chlorella. > > Deidre >
Guest guest
There is no reason to be nervous about taking iodine. Any iodine that your body can't utilize is harmlessly washed out of the body in the urine. Most MDs and NDs are nervous nellies about iodine (they are trained to be so it's not their fault really), and should not be listened to on the subject, it's really that simple, sad to say. Tiredness is a bromide detox symptom, so yes that's normal. I have lost 35 pounds following the iodine protocol, after gaining some slightly when I first started. I increased my unrefined salt and Vit C as part of my adrenal treatment that I got advice on, here on this list. Once I treated the adrenals in combination with the iodine, I started losing weight. Most people who gain weight, or want to lose and don't, have livers that are sluggish and not processing waste well. It's all a process and people have to be willing to see it through. If you start gaining weight, it means your detox pathways are sluggish and you need to improve them. Toxins that the body can't get rid of, or doesn't recognize, are stored as fat to protect the organism. So it's a matter of detox pathways. Also, taking enough iodine so that body can move through holding onto things and start letting go. You're on the right track. I didn't tell my acupuncturist/ND that I'm on the iodine protocol because I was afraid he would be negative about it. I finally mentioned it and he just accepted it and we went on. Guest guest
I notice Karyn mentioned progesterone. I started taking pregnenolone as part of my healing from adrenal exhaustion, and it's been great. Pregnenolone is a precursor to all the steroid hormones including progesterone. So it gives the body what it needs to build hormones and it can choose and therefore balance itself, particularly in concert with iodine (as iodine enhances the body's ability to balance hormones). Many people will say that you should get tested first, and I'm sure that's a good idea, however I did not. Others have said they didn't have a good response to pregnenolone, and I respect that. Fortunately for myself I did, and it's affected me only positively, to the point that even my sexual health is better. I prefer the idea of taking the precursor because that allows the body to do the balancing. However, that requires that your body be able to manufacture the correct hormones appropriately, and some people's health issues involved a loss in that area, and those would be the people, I assume, who would not respond well. I just wish I'd known about it long before. -- At 05:08 AM 8/3/2011, you wrote: >There is no reason to be nervous about taking iodine. Guest guest
Once again, , we are in complete accord! I've recently started using Preg. and wish I'd known about it before using HC and Florinef! For those who want to learn more, I'd suggest Goodling " Pregnalolone stealing " , as this explains it in good detail.Basically, those who test low in Cortisol ususally test low in DHEA, Progesterone, etc. This is because in order to produce the high levels of cortisol in 'first stage AF, your adrenals 'divert', or 'steal' Preg from making these other hormones. I and a number of others have been researching and are trying it, now.So far it seems like there are 2 considerations; there are 'transient' side effects, that SEEM to happen to some people, when they first start taking, but they don't effect everyone, and once your body gets used to it, they seem to go away; headaches (usually from taking too much at one dose), dizzyness, for a minute or less, heart palps, again mild and only in first couple of days, and sleepiness or insomnia. The second issue seems to be with some people, their production of Testosterone (in women) or estrogen (in men) can go up.Really don't know if this is transitory, and will resolve as levels straighten out, or not. I have found I got almost complete releif of symptoms, first day on 10mg.But, have had to steadily increase dosage. Am now at 100mg./day, and still increasing.I theorise this is because its going out, and into Cortisol,DHEA, etc. a little faster than I'm putting it in, and when i get my 'reserves' filled up, this will no longer be the case, and i will get consistent relief of symptoms. How long have you been taking it, how much are you taking, and how did you start taking it (slow ramp up, or 'jump in with both feet'), and did you have any negative side effects? Thanks for mentioning this, I hope everyone contemplating HC for AF researches and considers it, first.Like everything else, it may not be for everyone, but its something to know about.;-) Jim > >There is no reason to be nervous about taking iodine. Guest guest
It can be measured by a blood test. According to Uzzi Reis MD an optimal result would be 150 ng/dL. Highly recommend his books which provide symptomatic and lab result guidance to determine if a path is correct for the individual and then how to set a dosage. > > > >There is no reason to be nervous about taking iodine. Guest guest
Thanks, Ido, you always have such good information. Your recommendation for the book about stomach acid has helped me get off Zantac and feeling much, much better!ArielOn Wed, Aug 3, 2011 at 1:03 PM, ido zahavi <zahavi100@...> wrote: Â you will have to try.many experience that it goes in the wrong direction. no one will be able to tell you how it goes. a functioning liver might help. we see many times that progestrone is helping the adrenals On Wed, Aug 3, 2011 at 6:51 PM, Ariel Monserrat <wolvenwood@...> wrote: Â What kind of test(s), if any, would one need to do in order to determine if pregnenalone is right for you?thank you,Ariel On Wed, Aug 3, 2011 at 12:34 PM, dutchdivco <jdutchmanjim@...> wrote: Â Once again, , we are in complete accord!
