It seems that nobody is really sharing much about this year¹s conference, so

I figure I¹ll start the ball rolling...

Ok, here it goes.....

This was my first convention and it was overwhelming the first few days. I

felt that I always had to be on. But that¹s just me. Anyway, I got used to

it and that¹s when the fun really began! I went to Casa Loma...a beautiful

castle (unfortunately it was raining and foggy that day). I consider myself

a rather fortunate LP and had little difficulty with all the stairs, there

were others who struggled greatly. I partook in the dine around twice (where

arrangements are made ahead of time for people to eat at a restaurant, we

all go by bus). The first time it was Vinnie¹s Grill...the food was very

good and the service was good as well. The second nite, we went to a

restaurant that by name appeared to be seafood...it was in the midst of

Chinatown and served Chinese food. The service wasn¹t very good nor was the

food. The 3rd dine around, hubby and I bailed out on...we ate at the hotel

restaurant. The best part of the dine around situation was meeting people

that you probably wouldn¹t have otherwise. We met some women from Denmark

and a fabulous family from England. We also went to some workshops...I met

the Medical Advisory Board, went to a pregnancy clinic...kinda a case of

³what to expect when you¹re expecting² type of thing. I¹m not pregnant, but

I do want to be prepared when we decide to start a family. The workshop was

very educational, at least for me. Then we visited with the doctors. We also

went to Niagara Falls...what a site! We went on the night trip, getting to

see the falls in the daylight and night time.

I also attended a workshop by Soares and Cara Egan re: LP¹s in the

media and the glare of the spotlight. I was late for that, but what I did

catch I found to be interesting and informative. I attended Cara Egan¹s re:

lp¹s and public advocacy...what¹s being done with ADA and all that. The

legislation that¹s been passed and what we¹re striving towards. That too was

informative.

I just want to say thank you to district 5 and LP of Toronto for organizing

the conference. As far as I¹m concerned, you did a great job!!!

Barbara
