lee - Congratulations !!!!

Marilyn - I've only been to one convention - I didn't know anyone there

- I didn't go up and talk to people, I'm just not that kind of person, I

hang back and wait for someone to talk to me. Our teenage daughters

went to the teen orientation - met a couple of friends - intoduced them

and their parents to us. The whole week we were there we spent

primarily alone. We did talk to the parents some but the majority of

the time it was me and my husband in a sea of strangers. The girls had

a GREAT time and that was the main reason for going. People seemed

really " cliquish " because most knew others already and were in their own

little groups. We couldn't afford to do alot of the activities and

outings where we probably would have had a better opportunity to " meet "

others. I don't think anyone was purposely leaving us out but with that

many people who knew we were " first-timers " . My suggestion is to go

but go with the will power to go up to others and speak first, try to go

to as many of the extra outings as you can and speak to the others on

those outings. If you can't bring yourself to do that you may come back

very disappointed. I regret now not doing that and wishing everyone

could read my mind and come up and speak to me because " I'm new here and

I don't know anyone " . I, by no means wish to discourage you but You

should be prepared to be outgoing if you want to really have a good

time. We haven't given up and we are going to try to go in 2000. If we

make it there - I'll have to look you up!

- I wish what you said was not true but unfortunately it IS!!

Your comments about the newsletter are right on target!! Maybe we're

the only ones that see this..

DAN - I don't really understand the difference in (editor's)

compensation and paid position (of database coordinator). I think the

membership knew about the paid position but where was it mentioned in

LPA correspondence that the editor was compensated for his volunteer

work (with LPA dues)? It appears that both positions are PAID

positions or am I missing something? How many other volunteers are

compensated? Sorry, don't mean to sound like you're responsible (I know

you're not) but since you were setting the facts straight I thought you

might know the answers. If not maybe you can refer me to someone else.

Houston Newsletter People - GREAT JOB!!!! Any of you want to move to

Alabama?

Sorry can't help on any of the medical ????

Leroy - Thanks for the info --- I guess I did miss out on something!!!

Sorry Dan!!
