and Joni,

This is a huge step for someone who has experienced deafness. The phone somehow

becomes a phobia which we are reluctant to address. What you did to day was

really good for both of you. I'm excited to read this. It becomes delightful

to use the phone without going thru the relay.

Good for Both of you! Tell us how the call went with your daugher, . I

bet she loves it.

Yeah... I did call my daughter after talking to Joni. Well this is the

FIRST time I have talked to my daughter on the phone and she is 28 yrs

old. She laughed and kept saying hi to me. There were a few times I had a

hard time understanding her but it was really wonderful! OF course she

sounded the same as Joni so guess I will have to learn how peoples voices

sound different on the phone. I plan to make a few more calls as the week

goes on, not too many at first because I find myself tiring a bit as I

concentrate on what the person is saying. Thanks Joni.. for agreeing to be

the guinea pig on this :)

And we did wake up the monster :) hubby is moaning about the phone bill

already!

Thanks Alice, but I have talked to her in the past on the phone. I gave up

on the phone 25 yrs ago because it got too hard for me. I haven't called

her yet, but will this week. It took her over a year to make her first

phone call in years (she started losing her hearing in her 20's and got her

CI in 97). So look out world.... maybe in a year it will become old news

to me :)

Lee,

I was told that cell phone providers like Verizon have a clear signal which

make it easier for hearing aid and CI users to hear. Some say the signal

from a cell phone is clearer than a landline. Others say the opposite.

I also wonder if it might have something to do with the placement of the

phone against a BTE speech processor? When I used a cell phone for the first

time on Monday, I had no problem placing the phone against my 3G. The

cell phone had a flat earpiece which made it easier for me to hear opposed

to the campus phone which had a round handset. When I used the campus phone,

I had a more difficult time finding a good spot in which to place it against

my 3G. I haven't used the phone on a regular basis, so my difficulty might

be due to the fact that I'm still learning. :)

Lee,

That could be. Perhaps someone who lives near an airport or military base

could comment on whether they have the same experience. Your theory makes

sense. It would be interesting to find out if this does have an impact on

one's ability to hear on the phone. When I used the cell and campus phones

on Monday, I was located 3 miles from downtown and 10 miles from the

airport.

I've had a great deal of trouble using a phone in recent weeks, even a

landline or rotary one, with the Less EMF long cord. How do people use

phones - has anyone found a good way?

I think in some cases, you just have to find the right phone... or if you

use the phone a lot, you may need to buy a good speakerphone and keep

your distance. Other than those ideas, there is the usual nutritional/detox

route to reduce your ES symptoms, or find an EMF protection device that

works for you.

I've got GE phones in the house which seem fairly benign, but I don't

really spend a lot of time on the phone nor am I that sensitive...

Hi Josh,

How far away from the corded telephone base do you have to be to avoid

symptoms?

For a while I just had a paper cup with a hole in the bottom, taped

or held onto the earpiece of the phone.

Now I prefer a speaker phone, but have yet to find one that seems

totally safe and effective. I have heard of the stethescope working,

but the one I bought didn't seem to work very well.

Interesting idea, using the microphone. I really wish you the best in finding

resolution about that plasma TV! Have you tried some kind of filter between its

signal and whatever it's polluting in the house?

It pollutes everything that will conduct it ! I think this one has evan

stumped the pros, the only way is to get the Plasma de-comissioned and I will

when time allows seek advise from the relavent EU dept, as the UK british

standards allow this travesty to take place.
