Guest guest
Hi folks: Here is the Lancet article on the massive INTERHEART study, not yet officially published: http://www.thelancet.com/journal/vol364/iss9437/full/llan.364.9437.ear ly_online_publication.30676.1 http://snipurl.com/8uy7 And here is (my) quick summary**: Protection ------------- Factor ---------- ---------------------------------- 69% --------- Low ratio ApoB/ApoA1 65% --------- Not smoking 63% --------- Avoidance of psychosocial stress 58% --------- Avoidance of diabetes 48% --------- Avoidance of hypertension 38%* -------- Non-excessive abdomen measurement 30% --------- Eating fruits and vegetables 14% --------- Taking regular exercise 9% --------- Moderate alcohol consumption * There appear to be conflicting indications for this factor. ** I have converted their odds ratios to protection factors because I find protection factors more helpful. For example, in the case of smoking the 2.87 odds ratio of smokers converts to a 65% protection factor of not smoking ......... (1/2.87 - 1) x 100. Here is yet another study indicating cholesterol to be the single most important factor. Of course five of the nine factors appear to be taken care of directly by CRON. Rodney.
