Hi Deb and everybody. It IS amazing how big, strong people chasing each other for possession, or whatever, can bring an amazing transformation over a city, sometimes.(.in Houston's case) millions of people. I don't follow follow sports much anymore, because as with everything else I find in interest in, I go to the extremes with it. I'm not as near as bad as before.. because I'm aware of it. As with sports and OCD, I used to bet ALL the games, EVERY Sunday, Monday, and Thursday...with a book, with more money than I made in a year sometimes. I guess you could say I was lucky in the sense I didn't get my knee caps re-arranged..but it takes a toll in stress. Truly, the winning is not worth the losing. I'm sorry, I always start talking about my self and that's a bad trait and I'm working on it. Anyway, when the Rockets won back to back championships

(basketball), the whole city, not just the final games, but the games preceding the play offs, the city was a changed place.. There were no black people, no brown, nor yellow, no red or white, or Russians, or, well I think you understand... There were only Rockets fans!!! It was beautiful!! I watched the people interacting more than the game!! It truly was a miracle in this big town which at the time 9and sorry to day..again).. was the # 1 murder capitol in America! At least a close second... LA couldn't be outdone... When the Rockets clenched the title for the 2nd yr. in a row, I was worried what would happen at all of the street parties, etc... I couldn't believe it... ONE Public Intoxication, and I'm telling ya', Richmond Ave was bumper to bumper with HAPPY people..all hugging each other and delirious about this. They were in cars and on foot and the news showed that EVERY end of this massive town were celebrating. ALL because our guys could bounce and pass and chase a round ball better than any body else's guys.... Life is so strange..that it can't help but be interesting, and something to think about and ponder. It's 4:20 AM.. I'm going to the hospital to have the test that they put a wire up your groin in to the heart, and put in stints if needed... they say its' precautionary, I say is $1500.00 more dollars out of my Religion Fund. (my pocket is HOLY..hehehe). Something about I'll keep you posted on how it goes..getting to the Med Center is an adventure.. Remember Donkey Kong? I feel like that! First, I ride my bicycle down to the gas station where the bus stop is, then catch the 'ol #2 and go about fifteen miles to the train, that lets me off right at the place. Sounds like I like in Whistle Stop, that town in Fried Green Tomatoes..AHAHAHAHA.. I'm hoping the bike won't

be a bitch around the groin when coming home...I may walk it.....or call somebody, if neccesary. Deliman Deb <posttransplant@...> wrote: GO COLTS - JEFF <jeffreyruse > wrote: Yep Jeff they did it !!!!!!!!

Thanks for sharing this, Bob. I grew up with a cousin who was blind. He was

like a brother to me. He's dead now and I sure do miss him. He was of

enormous support to me when was born and used to send her educational

toys to help her learn.

That is inspirational about the Warner's and I appreciate the link to the

story on snopes. There is one small problem though. The article link to

snopes contains a reference that offended me a little bit. For some reason

I could not cut and paste it, but if you go to the link and read it you will

see what I mean:

http://www.snopes. <http://www.snopes.com/glurge/warner.asp>

com/glurge/warner.asp

The article refers to the fact that his child was not a " Down syndrome

child. " The way it was written kind of made me cringe when I read it

because it was not the 'people first' language that I have become accustomed

to. It was almost like saying mongoloid child, besides the fact they used

Down instead of Down's.

Don't get me wrong, I was not upset with them because I just figured that

they were unaware that type of language would even bother anyone, and I do

not want to create some kind of mob lynching against snopes. They do lots

of good in the internet community and I think a gentler approach is better.

I used the 'contact us' link at the top of the page to write a tasteful

respectful letter to them explaining that this was not the best way to refer

to people who happen to have Down's syndrome.

I hope they will revise the article, but if not, I did what I could.

Well, just more than a week away from Super Bowl XLIII. There had been

some old rumors, mainly of the electronic variety, circulating that Kurt

Warner has an adopted child with Down syndrome. No, not true. Is true of

a baseball St. Louis Cardinals, firstbaseman Albert Pujols, but not

football Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner. His son Zachary has

a somewhat different set of challenges.

Even if you're not the least bit interested in football, you might want

to read the stories at

And some might want to have a Kleenex handy, the Snopes entry is after

all labeled a glurge.

The Steelers are 6.5 or 7 point favorites. I guess it'd be okay if they

win, just hope for a good, clean, and maybe even interesting game. But I

certainly wouldn't mind if Kurt Warner wins Super Bowl XLIII. Think that

would be kinda neat after having won XXXIV nine years ago, Jan. 2000.

Warner's a good quarterback, belongs in the Hall of Fame, someday. Maybe

not really a superstar nor a superman, but he appears to be a very good

man and may well be a super dad. A bit too religious for my taste, but

that's his business.

Hope Zachary Warner is still doing well. Think he's now about 18. And if

he wants to give his dad a bright red Cardinals card, that would be all

right by me. This is American football, not that game the rest of the

world calls football, where a red card is not a good thing. -- Bob

Hmmmm.....

I did not read the snopes article so I am responding only to this post.

I did not realize that " Down's " syndrome was " correct " rather than

" Down " syndrome. When I tell someone about my daughter I always say she

has Down syndrome - after all, it was Langdon Down that first noted

the similarities. All the 's does is show possessiveness of the name

" Down. " Even googling Down syndrome or Down's syndrome, all of the

returns come back " Down " syndrome.

Yes, I had noticed that awkward bit of phrasing. But wasn't too bothered by

it. Probably good that you brought it to Snopes' or Snopes's attention.

But two things. In the Snopes entry the phrase " Down Syndrome " is actually a

link to NDSS site. I see nothing wrong with that.

And, as far as Down or Down's is concerned, see Dr. Leshin on the matter,

http://www.ds-health.com/name.htm

<<In 1974, a conference at the US National Institute of Health attempted to

make a standard set of rules regarding the naming of diseases and

conditions. This report, printed in the journal Lancet, stated: " The

possessive form of an eponym should be discontinued, since the author

neither had nor owned the disorder. " (7) Since that time, the name has

traditionally been called " Down syndrome " in North America (note that

" syndrome " isn't capitalized). However, the change has taken longer to occur

in Great Britain and other parts of Europe, for reasons that aren't quite

clear to me.>>

Just FYI, really. -- Bob

  • 2 weeks later...

Almost on cue, 30 minutes before kickoff, my wife began to suffer extreme

headache from neighborhood cable, wifi, tv cable and/or microwave/cellphone. It

was such a large attack that we were going to leave for the desert, but the

gauntlet of speed radar cameras on the highway would only make matters worse.

She had to ride out the onslaught of wireless invaders by getting under her

Faraday canopy, turning on the oxygen and me blocking the window with

hardibacker. My question is: " What the hell are they doing during the Super

Bowl to bring such terror? "

P.S. We lost!

The frequencies created by all the tvs being on during Super Bowl are

carried from house to house via the electrical wiring, from which they

radiobroadcast thrugh your living space. It is not from the tv on your

neighbors'

patio sending waves across the yard through the air. You'd have to be fairly

close to a tv to get exposed from the set itself.

Installing Stetzer filters in your house will clean up the electricity

in your circuits.

If you install Stetzer filters, I'd suggest first listen to your wiring with

an AM

radio (with all appliances, preferably main power off). If it is quiet,

your neighbors

are not a problem. If it is buzzy, add stetzer filters as close as possible

to the

panel on both phases. Note the buzz at the filter will get worse. If the

buzz on the

wires doesn't improve you probably have common mode noise and either need to

find and correct the source or get a more serious filter that can reject

common mode.

Note that correcting at the source is always the best bet to try first. My

neighbor

had an old hot tub he thought was disconnected, but it was causing a buzz at

both our houses. Flipping off the right breaker solved the problem.

Now turn on your TV or whatever. Putting filters close to the TV may help

but may not if you are close to the TV and/or filter. Again there more

elaborate

filters you can try but the best bet is to turn off the TV and read a

book....
