Guest guest
Hi Chantelle, I just did this last week and don't make the mistake of putting a Do-rag over the top of it. Apparently they are not dye-fast and I had what looked like a busted ink pen all over my clothes, neck, forehead and hands. If you need something, stick with a plain old shower cap, lol. Other than that it was great once I felt like it was all washed out. I can't wait for round number 2! a Coconut oil on your hair, by itself? Has anybody tried just coconut oil on the hair. I live in very dry AZ and have very long hair, so I have been tempted to try this, but was wanting to know if others had. Chantelle > > >> > >> > I used VCO on my hair this week for the first time. Guest guest
I use it as a conditioner after I've washed and towel dried my hair. Just several drops in the palm of my hands. massage into damp hair. Comb through and leave it. It's not greasy in the least. -Patty > > Has anybody tried just coconut oil on the hair. Guest guest
I was having problems with my hair being so dry it was starting to look like hay ( I do dye my hair ). I am a waxer ( as in using wax for hair removal ) and I use oil to remove any leftover wax from the skin or anywhere else (ie: the floor). I decided that if oil emulsifies wax and that sebum is a waxy substance that I was going to no longer wash my hair but just use Masters organic honey conditioner in the morning and at night slather my hair with the coconut oil. My hair looks oily in the morning but I put on the conditioner first thing and let it remain on there and the very last thing I do before I get out of the shower is rinse it out ! I have been doing this for four months and love the results. It has taken some time for the improvement to show but my patience and perserverence has really paid off ,in my case, as the condition of my hair just gets better and better. I had been using organic shampoos for about a year before I started this experiment so I did not have problems but I understand that it can take as long as three months to get the sodium laurel sulfate and other chemicals out of your hair. When my 28 year old daughter first started doing it (she had been using salon shampoos and conditioners but does not dye her hair. ) two inches from the roots became extemely greasy looking and she wasn't sure she wanted to or could suffer through that ! She decided to slog through and her hair is so pretty and shiny now. I also love the difference in the condition of my skin since eating and using coconut oil on my skin. My fair skin no longer burns as I once did as I responsibly expose my skin to the sun slowly at the beginning of the season. I take a bow to coconut oil !!! It was one of the best decisions of my life to flout the saturated fat nay sayers !!! > > > > Has anybody tried just coconut oil on the hair. Is that what is drying us out? > My hair looks oily in the morning but > I put on the conditioner first thing and let it remain > on there and the very last thing I do before I get out > of the shower is rinse it out ! Sorry to ding out here, but are you saying that you use the CO at night and then in the morning wash it out with the conditioner? We live in Tucson, both the heat and the city water are horrendous for trying to keep healthy hair. Last week we went " no poo. " It's about to drive me nuts! They say to hang in there and things will calm down after a few weeks, but I'm about to have all my hair cut off, it's so terrible. Yesterday I used some CO on the ends (I have long hair down to my waist) and that didn't help much. I'm afraid if I use the CO on my scalp it will negate the " no poo " thing. -vanessa .... hating my hair!
Guest guest
I have used VCO and nothing else on my hare (after washing) for the last 8 years. Just rub a little in after drying and rub my hands through my hare after applying the VCO to my face 2-4 times a day. Also the only thing I use for body moisturizer, de-odorant. Use three drops in each eye to prevent my eyelids freezing to my eyeballs each night(only thing I found half effective) for the last 2 years after searching for something for over 10 years. Cheers, Doug Coconut oil on your hair, by itself? > Has anybody tried just coconut oil on the hair. Guest guest
Dear , Wow! Your hair is long ! Mine is only down to my shoulders. My hair is very thin and used to be stick straight. About two months into going poo-less my hair started to gently wave ! I could not believe my eyes ! What kind of shampoo have you been using until now ? What exactly is happening with your hair since you've gone " no poo " ( what a great phrase ! ) What made you decide to stop shampooing ? Sebum are the natural oils that your scalp produces. It does not make your hair dry but it is what makes your roots greasy when you haven't washed your hair. It is my theory that if you constantly are in the habit of stripping the sebum totally away by washing your hair with shampoo that the scalp overproduces sebum to heal your scalp. When you stop shampooing I think it takes awhile before your scalp gets the message that it can slow down on the sebum production. I only want to get rid of the excess sebum on my scalp without drying out my scalp and the rest of my hair. Since I do not have long hair I don't know about using my protocol as often as I do... that could get quite expensive using it every day. For me, believe it or not, the Masters honey and hibiscus hair reconstuctor conditioner takes away the oily look without stripping it all away like shampoo does. Yes, I really do use only the condtioner to remove any excess coconut oil. I use enough coconut oil so I can slick my oily wet hair back but it's not dripping with oil by any means. I sleep with it that way but it never gets on my pillow case. You have to remember that I highlight my hair so my hair is quite damaged so you may not need to coconut oil like I do daily... maybe only once a week will do it. I wonder if there are any " no poo " long hair forums to help you in you endeavor to go " poo-less " . Think about the beautiful hair of polynesians and other native cultures. They have beautiful, naturally shiney hair and I bet they rub coconut oil in their hair ! I just went to " long hair community dot com " and they had a thread talking about how they use coconut oil so check that out. It may be difficult for you to go " no poo " for a while because your hair may need to shed chemicals and polymers. Who knows what your shampoo was doing to your hair and scalp! I wish you the best and let us know how it works out. It would be a shame to cut off all your hair but maybe a good healthy trim may be in the cards for you too ! Guest guest
I have dry eye too but up to this point I have been using the similasan dry eye formula after " deep sixing " the drug store brands that didn't do much for me. Thanks for the suggestion... I'm going to try it. > >>> > > >>> > I used VCO on my hair this week for the first time. Guest guest
> Hi Barbara and Hazel, Thank you both for chiming in and the tips. Here's an update. It's now been about a week since going " no poo, " which means instead of using shampoo, I use baking soda and water to wash then apple cider vinegar to rinse - then rinse everything out real well. I have used every kind of shampoo and conditioner under the sun. When we started practicing Weston A. Price way of life, I started moving my family away from all chemicals, including those found in hygiene products. I'm about to embark on homemade dish and laundry soap (wish me luck). Last night I wacked about three inches from my hair - a flip and clip. I couldn't stand it anymore. Then I showered and did the no poo thing and slathered my scalp and hair with coconut oil after I towel dried it. My scalp as been so dry and itchy! Today it seems much better since using the CO last night. I wondered though if that defeats my no poo efforts? Before going no poo our shampoo/conditioner was the 365 Lavender stuff from Whole Foods. That too was terribly drying to me, though I loved the smell. It also had sodium laureth sulfate. We also threw out all our deodorants. That was a tough one for me, until I found the mineral stone. CO works in a pinch too. Would like to find a good conditioner to use as I think this no poo is too harsh with my hard water. All the articles and people who do it say to stick with it a few weeks. -vanessa .... hate being itchy
