My nearest computer shop advised me (with no knowledge of our special use of

the QX) that such converters sometimes do and sometimes do not work! We

need Bill's advice re the QX in particular!!

laptop purchase for the SCIO

Hope you all well.

I have been researching this for quite sometime and with all the

options

starting to get more confused. I believe the laptop that you buy for

the SCIO needs a serial and parallel port which alot of the new

laptops dont have . Can anyone advise me the a USB port to a

serial converter is sufficient ??

Appreciate any help with this ?

from experience a serial prot is best..however a USB with converter works but

can be a pain to set up and if you are not conputer literate get someone else

to set up the VCOMS allocation

Hi ,

Recently,I have had to train a new client on QX that has bought one of the

Toshiba 3500

that has not the Serial and parallele port. We tried after calling Levanta

the interface

that convert USB port to serail port.But The green light has never turn on.

So,The search started on Internet and on phone to find the solution.

We finally found the gadget that cost $150. dollars and get in as a slot

inside the computer

and create the serial parallele Port. Then it has worked. The green light

turn on.

But I would discourage any new buyer to buy some of these Computer it look

like gadget added in the side of the computer.

Hi, I use a HP model ze5375us which has both serial and parallel ports. Have used it often with QX for 3 months now and I am very happy. Should also work good with SCIO and not too expensive-Mark

Dear Ms. Pearson,

The SCIO works through a USB port (In fact the cable we provide is a converter cable as most computers do not have either serial or parallel ports anymore).

Everything is important about the computer but make sure that the pixel resolution of the screen gives you the minimun 1280x1024 the SCIO requires as it is a true 'Windows' application that allows you to have many windows active at the same time.

Dear Mr. Savage,

Most converters work. However, I have found difficulties with a 'Gericom' computer and a different make of cable had to be installed. I have probably already set up a good 30 computers for the SCIO and have encountered problem only on this one.

I am not implying that such model is no good, I am saying that it might happen that a particular make of cable might not match a particular make of computer.

Once the cable is properly installed and the USB port set as per our instructions, the SCIO should work okay.
