fyi, also, I have had the computer for a year

and I took it back to Comp USA where I bought it to

have it checked out, they said there is nothing wrong with

the computer.. and that it must be something about the program

I am running, etc.. (qxci) :)

thanks!

I had the same problem. I recommend getting new fans in the computer ($75) and buy a cooling system called cool lap with two fans below ($30 to $40). I also had a major harddrive error so I replaced the harddrive for $150 but if you get to it before the harddrive goes bad that is best.

All the best,

Hello ,

Yeah, not only does it shut down, but it gets very hot sometimes where I just shut it down to

rest sometimes... so a cooling system seems to make sense to me - do you get this "cool lap" thing

at the computer store? Where do you get these new fans? My computer is under warranty

at Comp USA - do you think they would cover something like this? Maybe I could ask..

thanks!

Maggie -

Yes you can find the cool lap at http://shop1.outpost.com/product/3747576 for $30.Also, you can ask CompUSA to replace your laptop fans, you may want to pay if they won't will only cost about $100, worth it.

Regarding computer shutdowns. First, a description of the kind of shutdown is

helpful. Does it just turn off abruptly? If this happens your information was

not saved, and is generally a problem. You will normally see windows trying to

check itself with a program called scandisc or checkdisc when it boots up again.

If it appears that your computer went into hibernation, or standby, then you can

change some power settings. Windows xp does NOT just shut off instantly unless

there is a problem.

I see some talk about new fans. Why? What reason would you have for getting new

fans? Unless they are broke. The fans are not the problem. Proper venting is,

more than likely. There are two kinds of laptops. Portable computers and desktop

replacements. The difference being the kind of processor. Portable ones have

powersaving features, lasting on battery longer, and using less power, thus

running MUCH cooler. Desktop replacements are just that. They have a standard

processor in them, which has no real powersaving abilities, which in turn

generates a lot of heat. That is why most heat issues only occur with desktop

replacemants. Mobile processors will actually reduce their speed as needed to

adapt. Your fans are probably fine. I would check that you are setting your

laptop on a flat surface first. The fans need a supply of air, and checking your

laptop for lint/hair buildup on both entrance and exit points is a good idea. If

your laptop is not on a flat surface, you may well overheat. It certainly does

not hurt to replace your fans, I just highly doubt that will normally be

necessary.

The cooling pad is an excellent idea. The number one thing that kills laptops

and their parts is heat. The cooler you keep it, the longer it lives.

Hello :)

Actually, I agree - I was thinking to replace the fans, but then I figured

perhaps nothing would change as I may have the same problem with the new fans.

For me, I've had multple issues going on with the computer shutting down - sometimes

it hybernates, and then you can bring it right back on and into the qxci program.

But othertimes, it really does just completely shut off, and when you turn it back on,

you have to go back through the desktop to the clasp/qxci and start all over again..

Well, losing data has not been an issue for me, as I have not been using it so much

for that - but it does concern me how it completely kicks me out, as I hope nothing

is getting damaged with the computer or program.. Perhaps the cooling pad would

solve the problem, as it does sometimes overheat - so I will keep you posted if that

seems to solve it..

thanks!

hey there :)

I just got the cool lap and have been using it a few days or so - seems to be better

but I will keep you all posted if I experience more shut-downs.. maybe this will solve it..

I only used it plugged in and before the cooling pad, i had it on various surfaces including

my desk, couch, and lap :), etc.. and there appeared no rhyme or reason to the shutdowns,

but was hot, maybe.. so we'll see about that.. didn't get just a blue screen, but shut off and

i turn it back on to find the desktop and go back in, etc.. so I'll keep you posted how it goes

from here, I guess...

Thanks for the reply :)

When you gointo any kind of hibernation or standby mode, you have options in windows aswell as the computer mainboard (bios) which describe events that lead up tothe shutdown. You should be able to stop the hibernation/standby completely.Have you gotten a BSOD (blue screen of death), which basically is a bluescreen that says there is a major problem. Or, does it just shut downinstantly. There are logs on your computer that could possibly tell you whatthe error is. Here is where you get a scammer, he says "What is your ip,and your password, and I can use remote desktop to help you." I would noteven give Microsoft permission to remotely do anything to my computer.Anyway, data loss does not just concern your letters to Aunt May, it is moreimportant that certain Windows system files not get corrupted. This can andwill happen. With windows xp, unless you know a thing or two, you will endup paying someone to fix it. It is very important you find the problem andstop this from happening.............................................

Hello there Maggie,

A thought to ponder is that there may be resistant energetic forces that need to be cleared in the client /patient or the environment. When I have a client come into my office with much unconscious " goo" upon them, or subconscious fear of resistance.. the QX acts stuck and will close down periodically. I make sure to clear the space, our individual and collective energy fileds and it never seems to fail to keeping it smooth.

If this resonates with you, contact me directly and I will send you a few clearing techniques for the environment, a spherical energy vortex to clear out debris.

Best and Blessings
