I saw a post a few days ago from someone in the Tampa area saying that

there had to be a license from the city and the county to practice

here. I just spoke with the business tax division at City hall and

they have no idea what I'm asking for. I don't remember who sent the

message, but if you read this, could you tell me what kind of license

they require? Thanks!

I believe there is a misunderstanding or error-There is currently no license

for biofeedback. Currently individuals get a certification for biofeedback.

There is discussion of the licensing issue. Hope this clarifies.

Gentlepeople,

There is a great deal of confusion about licensing. Here's what you need to

know about licensing:

1. No state in the USA or Mexico or province in Canada requires a

biofeedback license at this time. All provinces and states in the US,

Canada and Mexico recognize certification by an independent certification

board requiring extensive training and a rigorous examination as being

equivalent to certification. (As far as I know the only two biofeedback

certification boards accepted by all the states and provinces at this time

are BCIA and NBCB).

2. Many people who practice biofeedback are licensed in medicine or mental

health. Their license usually includes biofeedback within the

2. Most towns and cities and some counties or other governmental disctricts

in some states require a business license. The requirements for this

license vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. What you need to do is call

the city or county clerk in your area and ask if a license is required, when

a license is required, who issues the license and whom to contact about a

license. Many times, if you work out of your home on a part-time basis or

if you provide volunteer services no license is required.

3. Most physicians and mental health professionals will not refer clients to

biofeedback professionals unless that person is licensed or certified

They may have been refering to an occupational license from the county and possibly from the city as well depending on their requirements. However, it is not related in any way to the specific use of biofeedback and device. Hope this helps.

I am sure all counties in Florida require an "occupational" license to collect money. Its a local county tax and has nothing to do with any kind of health care certification, only the right to collect a fee from your clients (a county tax) . Your "business" may be defined as a very general "health care" business. Hope this heps, Barry

Some cities require that you have a permit t conduct business- this is a totally different form of authority (or license) from an educational license.

I know that in London therapists must have a "business License/permit" the same as any othet business.

I don't know the situation in the USA but this posting should help the focus to be in the right direction.
