Here's what Hou Po is (taken from Materia Medica) Hou Po (chinese pinyin) - Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis (latin) - Magnolia Bark (common name in english) Just for fun in chinese they sometimes refer to it as chuan po meaning it was grown in sechuan province. Category: Fragant Herb that transforms dampness Enters: Lung, Large intestine, Spleen, Stomach Properties: Bitter, Spicy, Warm, Aromatic Actions: 1. Dries dampness 2. Promotes Qi circulation 3. I have a few parkinson's patients so you have caught my curiosity? Parkinson's Disease - Magnolia Bark Thank you Rob for your info. Magnolia - Hou Po are used to regulate lung Qi which is impeded by congested fluids as in Asthma Attacks. Magnolia Bark Officinalis or Magnolia Extract 5% Magnolol 50mg are used for tremors as in Parkinson's disease and to relax stiff muscles. You may also use a combo of herbs = Rhubard Peony [Paeonia] licorice and magnolia bark. Ronnie............................................
