Guest guest
Hi folks: There is only one nutritional supplement I have ever taken that I believe produces noticeable beneficial effects. I have been taking it for years and still take it weekly. It is chromium picolinate. A diabetic friend mentioned to me years ago that chromium was critical in enabling insulin to release energy. I take one capsule a week (200 mcg chromium). Other chromium compounds do not seem to have any effects. The benefit I think I see is better brain function. I am better organized, and it seems I am better able to solve detail-type problems. To give an example, I normally take the capsule on the weekend. If on Tuesday or Wednesday I am working on, say, some complicated computer programming problem and I just can't seem to get my brain in gear to solve it, I am now in the habit of asking myself " did I take my chromium this week? " Often the answer turns out to be " No " . I don't seem to have those problems if I take this small quantity of chromium on the weekend. This has happened often enough now that I am persuaded it is real. And I am also persuaded that it is not psycho-somatic because no other supplement (not even other chromium supplements) have the same (or for that matter any) effects. It is easy to rationalize that some people need more chromium from their diet than others. And also that farmland that has been in use for hundreds of years may now be rather depleted in some trace nutrients. The following article, although it reads a bit like a sales pitch, especially at the end, does provide some useful information on the topic. The article mentions quite a few other apparently beneficial effects, beyond those I believe I notice. FWIW. Caveat swallowor. http://www.foodingredientsfirst.com/newsmaker_article.asp? idNewsMaker=5954 & fSite=AO545 http://snipurl.com/79ar Rodney. > I believe it was Ames' research that led to Dr. Walford's recommendation of > ALC and ALA: .................... > I've not noticed anyting I could attribute to either supplement, but then > again, rarely have I ever noticed any effect from any supplement (excepting > caffeine!)
