Elspeth,

Did you keel over from sticker shock?

If you are in the hunt, I can add 2 cents here. My husband and I just

bit the bullet and bought a Tempurpedic king set. We just turned our

downstairs bedroom into a master and needed another bed...so last

fall as we were considering our options we happened to be visting the

Newport Boat show and, lo-and-behold, the Ramada Inn there was ALL

Tempurpedic's...so we got to sleep on one for ourselves if we liked

it. It was a great test drive. My husband is a stomach sleeper and I

am side or back. My hips were killing me when I slept on my side..but

this mattress really does seem relieve it. I also try to spend time

on my back to let " gravity " do it's thing and keep me a little

stretched out..and it does support you in a pretty comfy/cozy way

along the spine, I find.

I have read that some people find them warm....neither my husband nor

I have found that to be true for us...but it is always " coolish " out

here at night.

The only difficulties I have with the mattress are #1..getting up. I

am sure most of you use the old elbow/rocker trick to get outta

bed...and it really doesn't work very well on this mattress because

there is no " bounce " . #2 I find that it is more difficult to

rollover/move unless I am wearing one of my silky/slippy sets of

jammys. I thinks it's because the foam builds this little body pocket

that you kinda have to get out of...anyway, its just as easy to

wear/buy one set as the other.

We are ten days into ours and we love it. I understand that it is

really about a thirty day break-in for the Tempurpedic because the

top layers have to soften up a little.

Two other thoughts. The saleslady said there is no advantage in the

10 " mattress over the 8 " ...so we bought the 8 " .

A friend was saying how great her latex memory foam was, but she had

returned hers twice because it had left a permanant body imnpression,

but she had saved so much money not buying the Tempurpedic. I just

had to point out to her that maybe that was the problem.

I don't know...given the fact that my back and the mattress are in

contact with each other 8 hours a day...it has seemed worth it. It is

pricey but the warranty is great and I can't feel my hubby rolling

around over there....

Of course, your milage may vary!..Cam

Hi mattress hunters,

I bought a tempurpedic mattress this past fall because I was no

longer able to sleep on the slishy sloshy waterbed that had been my

best inanimate friend for the past 15 years. I was shocked at the

price but determined to find something that would allow me to sleep

comfortably. So, lulled into a false sense of security by the thirty-

day trial period, I invested the mucho dollars required to get the

bed into my home; turns out they had a bunch of uptight rules that

prohibited me sacking out in their showroom for a month. Hmph.

I liked the bed well enough, though the king size was HUGE and felt

unbelieveably high off the ground! Getting in and out of the damn

thing made me feel like a little kid. I'm talking toddler size!

Another thing I didn't like, making the bed was pretty difficult.

I didn't notice the bed being especially warm, though when I watched

the commercial for foam mattresses that was the first thing I

wondered about. In any case, my husband didn't like it and we

returned it. Turns out we weren't good about reading the fine print

and the salesperson/s weren't conscientous about directing us to

aforementioned wee lettering on last page of sales aggreement.

What the fine print indicated, in vague terms, was that we could

return the bed, but only for an exchange and if we were to purchase

a cheaper bed, tough luck for us about getting the difference back.

After a heated exchange with the manager(a passive/aggressive little

big fish in small bedding pond) regarding this issue, which but a

startling nice glow to my face, we opted for the superduper deluxe

soft-sided waterbed that feels like a regular mattress, but warm in

winter and cool in summer. My husband didn't like that so much

either, and then we seperated. But not because of the bed. But I am

off the bed-exchanging merry-go-round. For now.

, if you miss your waterbed, you might want to look into the

soft-sided ones. I purchased a very firm one, but you could go

softer. The pillow top guarantees you won't put a hole in the water

bladder, unless you're really determined to I suppose. My cats were

the culprits of holes in my last waterbed. I think the bladder must

have had a 100 little pieces of tape on it!

That's my long-winded 2 cents. Best to all, Dianne

Hi!

Just thought I would mention that my husband and I (after a great deal of

studying) did buy a foam mattress from Jordan Brothers in Avon, MA. It has a

name such as " Naturepedic " and was a bit more expensive than a plain foam for

our king size bed. I will say, though, that, every time we " crawl into bed "

one or the other of us always seems to say, " why did I wait so long to get so

comfortable? " ! It cost more than a lot of others, and less than a lot of

the big nationally advertised mattresses. This one seems to be special to

Jordan's. I used to think that I need a tough, orthopedic mattress that was

really hard. It was a shock to learn that the opposit was true, and scary to

shop for a softer but firm mattress for my scoliotic back. It has been just

about a year now, and we are absolutely thrilled with our mattress! Just had

to

share this with someone.. It might even save someone a few dollars. We love

this mattress and the only drawback is making ourselves get up out of it in

the a.m.! So, try Jordan's in Avon, MA., OK?

Sincerely,

Carole M. and Tom (two of the elders)

So, Carole, is this the same as Jordan Furniture ( " not to be confused with

Jordan Marsh " ), or is it a single store, and not the chain? (There's a Jordan's

Furniture in Nashua NH -- or northern Tyngsboro MA -- I'm not sure which. At

any rate, if it's the company I'm thinking of it's not just in Avon.)

Sharon,

I think that you have it right. It's the Jordan Brothers that you see on

TV. I go to the Avon store, but you well may have one closer to you! It is

NOT Jordan Marsh.

Sincerely,

Carole

That would make me want to sleep all day long. Maybe a 2" in top of my mattress wouldn't be too bad. Connie

I found a Memory Foam mattress at Target

for a fairly good price but, am wondering if anyone has tried these? I

didn't want to just buy it. They did have the egg shell foam mattress

pads too but, those didn't have alot of cushion on them to seem comfortable to

me.

I'm just looking for a Mattress Pad. I got a brand new bed when I moved into the apt so, I don't need a new mattress yet. Connie

Connie, my brother took part in a sleep study (he has sleep apnea) and during this study, he slept on a temperpedic (sp?) mattress. He said it was the best sleep he's had in his life. He's looking into purchasing one now. According to him, and his research, the less expenisive memory foam mattresses just won't hold up and last the way the name brand does. I'd invest to get the best. You get what you pay for.

Myself, I have the nautilus mattress mattress with the air chambers you can adjust on each side. I've had it for a couple of years now. I sleep much better than I did on a standard mattress, but now, after my big investment in the nautilus :(, I wish I had bought the tempurpedic. I don't want to sleep just "better", I want to sleep great. I'm sure tempurpedic has a website so you could check them out. I purchased my nautilus on-line. One thing about the nautilus that's great, they have a wonderful warranty/guarantee. Good luck. robin"Ann E. Woods" <Arianne377@...> wrote:

I don't think there's anything "magic" about the Tempurpedic except the name. I have heard there is a company called Carpenter that makes a similar foam that is less expensive. Sam's Club offers one that's about 4 inches thick for a lil over $100~ I'm still studying bout trying it.... suppose I've spent more on less so couldn't hurt 2 try it. LOL I can't remember the name though~

I just need a mattress topper right now. But, when I do need a new mattress, I will definitely be seeking one out. I can do that now then when I am ready to buy a mattress, I know what I am looking for. Thank you for you input.

Sams club had the memory foam mattress topper for $99. That is what I was talking about.

Target has the same thing but, I don't know if the thickness is the same. I would prefer to get the thickest one I suppose.

i've just bought an Ergoflex high density memory foam mattress - supposed to be

the market leader. The support it gives is amazing, but I am nevertheless

finding it impossible to sleep on because I feel like the foam is so dense that

I am no longer 'earthed', a problem i did not have on my old, less dense reflex

foam mattresses.

Has anyone got a memory foam mattress, and if so what are your experiences -

good and bad?

Any ideas how i could earth my body without using anything metal? (must be

cheap!)

cheers, jane

PUK - You should be no more or less earthed than before prehaps you need to

give it time to adjust. With any new product you will be on high alert

for any potential problems a sort of heightened awareness/flight or fight

state - give it time and perserveer, you could also try putting some nice big

plants in your bedroom ?
