Guest guest
All, There are two things that I've been seeing on the list serv that I wanted to comment on. 1957 Vs 2001 It's true that LPA has changed a lot over the past 44 years since Barty founded Little People of America. Our membership has increased, we are trying to offer assistance in the form of Scholarships, Adoption, locating the best Doctor that is familiar with your particular form of dwarfism, newsletters both locally and the National news, plus the LPA Web site that's easily accessible. We are trying to obtain grants and donations from large corporations to enable us to do more for the membership. Yes, we have changed in 44 years, mostly for the benefit of the short stature community, their friends and family. In that time other things have happened that you may not agree with, and here's where you can make a difference. If you feel strongly about any issue in LPA, you can have your District Director speak for you at the National Conference when the Board of Directors meet, or if you come to the Conference, you're welcome to attend the meetings and speak for yourself on these issues. The other option you have is campaign for one of the National offices that will be coming up for vote in 2002, or support someone you feel will represent your views and concerns. LPA Today I saw the past few days comments about the National newsletter. First of all the officers of LPA fully support and appreciate all the hard work that Povinelli has put into this non-paid position. volunteered to take on this responsibility a year ago without getting paid a single cent for doing it. The only paid position in LPA right now is the Data Base Administrator position that is held by Pratt. Here is another chance for any of you that don't like the current look of LPA Today to have your District Director voice your feelings or you can do that in person at the Conference. The Board of Directors are the only ones that can vote on a paid position or the direction that LPA should take. All of the officers have their own ideas of what direction LPA should go, but it's the input of the membership to their elected officers that will influence any changes. Please put yourself in s place of doing the best possible job you can, and not getting any recognition for it. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know. Sincerely, Leroy Bankowski, LPA National President
