atkins thoughts

I admit that I havent read the posts on this subject leading up to the last

digest

so forgive if what I say is redundant as I weigh in on the atkins thread.

I certainly am no expert on atkins at all,

and I do not knowif the advocate of the diet has said that she believes in

everything about the diet either.

but for me to read someone say that atkins is a healthy diet is just so foreign

that I cant even comprehend the thought.

Doesnt the atkins " diet " promote artificial sweetners, splenda in particular,

something that isnt even a food but contrived in a lab?

anyone happen to have an article filed that explains how artificial sweeteners

do something to the brain and actually make a person *more* hungry and THEREFORE

make people gain weight? I know I have read the research about this fleecing of

American pocketbooks but I dont believe I saved an article explaining that.

Does not also the atkins " diet " promote little frozen and canned overly

processed diet meals w/ low calorie empty " food " ? I guess I would ask is why

would this laboratory manufactured food be any helathier than Mcs? At

least Mcs has calories in it. Our bodies *need* calories. Healthy calories

are converted into energy in our diet. Of course the problem lies in when we eat

more calories than our body requires and our body stores the fat to use as

energy in case of crisis. I cant *imagine* trying to get by on empty lab made

food or not enough calories. How unpleasant would that be when our body is

crying for nourishment? I am not saying that we need to always feel " full " like

how one feels after walking away from overeating at Thanksgiving,

bleck,

that isnt an energetic feeling either. But I mean that if we are to eat three

healthy meals a day and consume all the nutrients that our body requires that we

will feel *satisfied*

and have what our body needs to function at peak level. I dont know about you,

but I am such a busy busy woman ,

I absolutely need peak performance therefore I need all my calories .

And that is the whole idea surrounding virgin cold pressed coconut oil. That is

what those of us who are sold on this type of a diet are preaching here. We

believe in calories! yeah for satuated fat and calories that will be turned into

energy! yeah for an oil that is a real food,

not processed or concocted in a lab like crisco,

but a real food ,

as close to nature as possible,

a raw food brimming w/ health benefits.

Now on the other hand,

in defense of the lady that is touting atkins as wonderful,

perhaps she isnt meaning to say that she beleives in consuming the splenda and

the horrid processed stuff that my mind thinks of? Perhaps she is just saying

that she has changed her eating habits to a more basic lifestyle,

that she is now limiting her carbs, and those that she does consume are only

the healthy natural variety,

like fruit and potatoes and whole grains and that she has eliminated all the

processed white junk out of her diet.

i dont think we would argue that as a bad thing,

would we?

i think that any good thing to an excess is always bad tho,

that just is common sense. Where as a rounded variety of whole, healthy real

food is always good. But still, we only want to eat what our body requires to

function,

and not over dose on even that (with the exception of vco:))

warmly,,,,jill
