Stress (was Re: Another Newbie)

Jen: no doubt about it, you are under stress. I hope you have a bit of

money saved to tide you over this period. The economy is improving (esp

because the party in power will ensure that in an election year).

But there is stress and there is stress. To put things in perspective, last

night as I was leaving to attend a function in conjunction with today's

March here in D.C, I received a phone call from my daughter. The news was

not good. A beloved family friend is about to lose her 2 year battle with

breast cancer. Sharon is a beautiful young woman (36 years old), is the

mother of two young children, 6 and 4 (who she will never see grow up), is

well off financially (for all the good that does) and in short has

everything to live for. But catastrophically she will not be . We that know

her can hardly imagine that this is happening. So I ask you and anyone else

who has problems (but thank goodness has their health) to remember that just

about everything in life is fixable except stuff like this.

So, CRers (or anyone) might obtain health benefit from watching

something cheery .... yes, will pop in VCR right now Silence of the

Lambs? :-) Seriously, I find this study interesting, and reminds me of

some other factors that purportedly lessen on-going stress (deep

breathing, music, exercise, meditation). Apparently, accute stress

works a little differently than on-going stress.
