Guest guest
The coconut oil from kokonut pacific is actually had pressed. They call it " micro expeller pressed " . Actually it is DME which stands for direct micro expeller pressed and I even have pictures here of the press and how it is done. It is done on a small scale and the DME is quite small. I have seen sun or solar dried and smoke dried copra. It is not nice and white and there are bugs on it. The solar dried has more mold than the smoke dried. There is still a fragrance to it if they do not do a full refining. I agree that expeller pressed oil is not RBD, but it is also true that most RBD oil is expeller pressed. However, it is my experience that copra does require " cleaning up " of the oil. Maybe not all the steps, but as a crude oil with no processing, filtering, etc people would not use it. The oil, even with a quick drying will have a light brown color, sediments, and it will have a slightly stale taste. At least this has been our experience. It is possible that with a couple of diatomaceous earth filtering, you can remove the stale taste and color, while still retaining some flavor. I know there are people who do this. However, there has been some concern about aflatoxin. Annette SPAM: SPAM: expeller pressed is not always RBD Hi Annette, not all expeller pressed oil is RBD, and not all copra is dirty and needs refining. One company that produces virgin expeller presed oil is Kokunut Pacific, in Australia: http://www.kokonutpacific.com.au And Enfield Agrobase in India makes a clean, organic, solar dried copra which is then expeller pressed. In both these cases, the oil produced is white, fragrant, tasty, and non-RBD. Just my 2 cents. Sharon
