You could try a couple of the 3-outlet " wall warts " sold at Quantum Products ($29 each): http://quantumproducts.com/catalog/quantum_power.html I find that even one of these plugged in near my bed helps me sleep better. The company treats these in such a way (magnetically? or something) that makes these have qualities that the ones sold in the hardware store do not have (even though they may look the same). I hesitate to recommend the more expensive 5-outlet and 7-outlet versions, as we've had a complaint here about the offgassing on those particular models. Of course, there are lots of much more expensive things that one can try, but if you are homeless, I'm assuming you don't have much of a budget to work with. (also, if you having trouble sleeping, are you sleeping on a mattress with metal springs in it? You may have better luck sleeping on something without so much metal in it, like a futon, a couch, a latex mattress, etc.) Marc
Guest guest
Hey , Your story just reminds me on how ridiculous these smart meters are... hope you find a healthy house for you soon. There was a post here last week on housing/community specifically for " sensitive people " : http://reshelter.org/ Anyway, I think things that may make a quick difference without the risk of getting worse... euh sorry I have only a few: -turn off the fuse box at night (and you may even save a buck in doing so!) -turn off your neighbour's wifi and dect phone -like Marc suggested, getting rid of your mattress if it has got metal springs… You could try " thingies " , most of them could work for you, but mostly with and not without! side effects: -Qlink -Quantum (Marc's previous post) -Bioprotect card -filters -shield your windows with mosquito net (less risky then alu-foil, but this may still have side effects because of reflection…) -… other crazy stuff ;-) You can find a lot of info here on , just by searching in older messages on specific keywords. Quite important is to check minerals, esp magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium,… I've been temporarily even more sensitive when I was very low on minerals... About the GROUNDING BAND. Well it's on top of my list too! had good result with grounding her bed (or was it because of a different mattress?): /message/18629 did not, but this may be caused by a " dirty " grounding outlet? /message/12344 Ian positive about the grounded metal blanket under his bed: /message/11074 Lily/Latifah heard a lot of good results of people (not on ) using an expensive bed pad made out of carbon (+ grounded). I have tried a carbon t-shirt. Carbon should lower your body voltage somehow. For me it seems to work the first 30 minutes, but after one hour it seems to get me worse. Today I've worn it 6 hours (under my shirt) and after 2 hours I was getting suffocated in that carbon t-shirt! I was at a family gathering otherwise I would've gotten rid of that t-shirt much faster! In the future I may wear the t-shirt one hour before going to bed, so my " body voltage " lowers a bit... Me I'm not sure about bed pads made of metal/carbon for sleeping… There are always side effects when working with metal… I will try sleeping with a grounding band linked to my ankle or somewhere linked with my body… Kinda like you suggested? That must be a good thing I think, definitely if you ground it when put one meter in the ground. If you can't do that I'm not so sure about a grounding outlet, because then you'd have to make sure there is no dirty emf… . > > Dear Group, > > I am living in Berkeley, CA, where I have been staying in temporary homes for the past 3.5 months. Guest guest
Thank you Marc and . That's brilliant, about the metal springs in the mattress. That had not occurred to me yet. This is a furnished temporary room, though. But I will remember that for all future bedrooms. That is interesting, about side effects when using metal. I would like to hear more about that. I will try to surf the archives, but I can't spend much time in front of the computer. Please let me know, if you try the grounding bands, . What I'd most like to hear, is if people have had success with these products, before I buy them. Thank you for the messages about bed grounding. I will look at them. Does anyone have experience with the expensive bed canopies that you hang around your bed? I bought a $7.49 gadget today, to see if my outlets were grounded. They are not. So I'd have to put a metal rod in the ground outside. It would be about 40-50 feet of wire, to do so! Well, I'm wiped out, but wanted to thank you for the kind responses. -Sue > > > > Dear Group, > > > > I am living in Berkeley, CA, where I have been staying in temporary homes for the past 3.5 months. Guest guest
About the grounding rod of 40-50 feet, I don't know whether that's too long. Would the grounding rod become sth of an antenna? About side effects when using metal. Well it's quite complicated! I think: Metal reflects and changes the properties of emf and cosmic rays. If you're in a Faraday cage (one metal box): -the properties of the harmful longitudinal emf waves are changed a bit which makes them less harmful: this is why it is still used by a lot of people to protect them from emf (in very sensitive days, I felt relief when laying under some kind of metal sheet for one hour or so) -but the metal also changes/reflects the cosmic rays Cosmic rays come from earth, sun and planets. Cosmic rays seem to be important for health. That's why some people get sick in high appartment blocks (building sick syndrome: too little cosmic rays coming from the earth) In my house there was alu-foil in the insulation of the ceiling. It made me sick because it messes with the cosmic rays... Metal also acts as sth of an antenna, which is no good either... Hope this clarifies a bit, some smart researchers could probably write a lot of interesting books on this topic ;-) . > > > > > > Dear Group, > > > > > > I am living in Berkeley, CA, where I have been staying in temporary homes for the past 3.5 months. Guest guest
Against cell phone/radio towers, one relatively inexpensive solution for a temporary solution is: http://www.uline.com/BL_54/Static-Shielding-Rolls Using just Staples 3M poster tape, you can very quickly install it as temporary wallpaper. Sometimes it falls off after a while, but then I just reapply more poster tape. Caveat is the appearance. When I put it up in my room, I have each subsequent piece overlap the previous one by about 3 inches. Any gap could be the weakest link that potentially invalidates the whole thing. Note that it works by reflection of the wireless radiation, so you have to put it in the right place so that it will actually reflect it away from you rather than toward you. I would recommend using a meter to test its effectiveness (e.g., Cornet from lessemf.com). Good thing is that it's temporary, so if you make a mistake, or if a neighbor moves in on the other side with wireless radiation, you can take it down. When I travel and stay in hotels, however, I use silver nylon shielding cloth instead (shieldextrading.net), to very quickly attach to curtains with a plastic clip. Sometimes it helps, if the only source is from outside the building, but if there's indoor Wi-Fi also, then I may need an enclosure with 4 sides... This is more expensive, but easier to set up and pack into my luggage. Sometimes, it's too strong in the hotel, and this isn't good enough. However, if you get the room furthest away from the Wi-Fi routers, e.g., at the center between 2 of them, it can be low enough that the shielding helps. > > Dear Group, > > I am living in Berkeley, CA, where I have been staying in temporary homes for the past 3.5 months. Guest guest
I'm not sure if someone already mentioned this one... In the bedroom, remove mirrors because radiation can hit them and reflect back onto you. If you can turn off the circuitbreakers to the bedroom at night, it's also a good idea to turn off the circuitbreakers to whichever other rooms are behind or near your sleeping head/body. I found that it's not a good idea to use shielding fabric or cage close to where you're sleeping if you canNOT turn the electricity to the bedroom off at night. I think the electricity can turn the fabric into a nasty magnetic field. > > > > Dear Group, > > > > I am living in Berkeley, CA, where I have been staying in temporary > homes for the past 3.5 months. Guest guest
, I understand there are places that have their powerlines underground, for aesthetic reasons, I would imagine -- is this the underground electricity that you are referring to? If so, it makes me sad. That's really tampering with the earth's healing energy fields. Group, I think all the electrosmog above ground is tampering with our abilities to connect with each other and the earth and the animals, etc. I think people with psychic ability may notice this even more. There's a book about psychic ability and electrical fields which I'm intending to read. -Sue > > > > Dear Group, > > > > I am living in Berkeley, CA, where I have been staying in temporary homes for the past 3.5 months. Guest guest
Hello Sue, no it is not the powerlines underground. Those cables are normally very good insulated. I mean the normal electricity, where you have a phase (+) and a neutral (-). In the USA 70 % of this neutral goed back to the powerstation, not by cables, but through the ground. That way you may have a lot of stray currents, which a grounding rod may pick up, and bringe those unwanted back into the house. Most electrosensitives do have some psychic abilities. They are paranormal; they *see* things, they *know* things. it is because of their sensibilty, that other properties are refind also. Guest guest
thank you, , fascinating (and disturbing?) why does't the neutral go back via the earth, in other countries? I'm not surprised, about the psychic abilities (Sobonfu Some, a woman raised in a village in Africa who teaches about her culture in America, thinks that modern technology and chemical toxins are destroying the " shamans " of the earth -- the people who have particular sensitivities/refined abilities in this way...) -Sue > >> > > >> > Dear Group, > >> > > >> > I am living in Berkeley, CA, where I have been staying in temporary homes for the past 3.5 months. Guest guest
Dear Group, Because I cannot find long-term safe housing, I move a lot, from one temporary place to the next. I have been referred to the book Earthing, which is the book behind the company Barefoot Connections, which sells the products to ground the body. The book itself highly recommends walking barefoot on the earth, to align with the earth's electrical fields. I am wondering, given 's information about stray currents in the ground, how one would know, when one was walking barefoot, whether the earth had harmful stray currents where one was walking. Are there certain areas where harmful currents are more likely to be found? Could one use a body voltage meter, to determine whether the ground one was walking on was safe and beneficial, eletrically? Finally, is there a meter one could buy, so that one could determine for oneself, whether a grounding rod planted in the ground was not bringing dirty currents into the house? I have a Tri-Field Meter and an RF Meter. I move a lot, and I can't afford electricians. I was hoping I could learn myself, how to measure these things. Can anyone recommend a book about grounding basics that includes information about this issue specifically? Would the 2 books recommended by be most helpful? Thank you for any recommendations. -Sue > >> > > >> > Dear Group, > >> > > >> > I am living in Berkeley, CA, where I have been staying in temporary homes for the past 3.5 months. Guest guest
Sue, about barefoot walking in your house, I think: -no heating installed in the floor -cork is great I think for a lot of reasons -wooden floor or tiles must be good (although I should watch out with chemicals to treat the floor with if you're so sensitive) -carpets are not so good emf-wise (and for allergies) Will you go barefoot walking in the streets too? Good luck! I would say if you're walking in the woods, mostly there won't be so much electricity in the ground, or this all depends?! I have checked the house that I'm renting here for geopathic stress lines. It seems important you don't put your bed on top of a geopathic stress line. You have to pay sb to do that or you'll have to take a lot of lessons. About the grounding rod: I don't know either how to measure the dirty electricity... I'll know more in one month... gr, . > > >> > > > >> > Dear Group, > > >> > > > >> > I am living in Berkeley, CA, where I have been staying in temporary homes for the past 3.5 months. Guest guest
, I understand wood is not a conductor, so walking barefoot in one's house wouldn't help much? I did walk barefoot in the park yesterday (dirt and grass). I didn't notice a lot while I was doing it, though I remember thinking I felt calm, and I remember shivers going up my spine and in my brain a bit. But as soon as I put my sneakers back on, and walked home on the sidewalks, my brain inflammation seemed to suddenly appear again, and my overwhelming sense of agitation and tension seemed to begin again. So, maybe grounding myself on the earth did really help. I have more experimenting to do. Let me know when you start learning the science of grounding rods better... It might make some minor improvements, but I doubt it will make much of a difference in what EMF environments you can tolerate. Marc
Guest guest
Barefoot walking: Yes, outdoor the grounding effect must be higher than indoor. But indoor walking without shoes also seems better (to me) for grounding than with shoes... Even if you're on the 22nd floor... There's probably also a difference in what kind of shoes/sneakers, leather or plastic soles... gr, . > > > > >> > > > > > >> > Dear Group, > > > > >> > > > > > >> > I am living in Berkeley, CA, where I have been staying in temporary homes for the past 3.5 months. Guest guest
Barefoot walking, the reason why you feel better may be the grounding effect but also the pressure on your feet = many acupuncture points... Guest guest
I only felt better while doing it. I am curious to try a grounding bed sheet. I'd love to feel better all night long. (There are people with EHS in the Earthing book who say they were fairly cured by using one.) I'm still reading the book to understand the technology. -Sue > > > I did walk barefoot in the park yesterday (dirt and grass). Guest guest
Svetaswan, It's a little black plastic gadget called an " Outlet Tester, " with 3 prongs that you plug into an outlet, and there are different colored lights that come on (1 red, 2 yellow), depending on the status of the outlet. You use a simple color-coded key to interpret the light pattern (open ground, open neutral, open hot, hot/grd rev, hot/neu rev, correct). I couldn't find any correct outlets in my home (it's an old home). Best, Sue > > > > > > > I bought a $7.49 gadget today, to see if my outlets were grounded. They are not. Guest guest
Thanks Sue - it seems that I found a couple of these type of devices on amazon.com. I know that you said that you can easily find them in hardware stores, but the convenience of amazon.com beats going into a store to try to search for these items, only to have employees act like you're there to shoplift. ~Svetaswan > > > > > > > > > > > I bought a $7.49 gadget today, to see if my outlets were grounded. Guest guest
Hi, Sue,  Welcome to the forum!  You ask whether there are bad earth currents and good earth currents (in essence that was what you were asking). Yes, the currents which are natural to the earth are different than returning stray electrical current we can sometimes react to in the earth (dirt/ground).  You ask whether one can tell if the ground/earth/dirt is healthful or full of stray currents...  Yes, I can tell the difference. I think it probably takes some experience to recognise how to do this, but you can tell if you sit or walk barefoot and you feel a release of bad energy or, conversely, a build-up of aberrant energy in your body.  When I " ground " myself/my body (ie: cause the bad energies to drain away), I choose a place which is not likely to give me stray currents--in the forest, next to huge bodies of water, and not in the path between the nearest electrical substation and a residential housing area or commercial area.  It is not that there cannot be stray currents in a forest or near a large body of water, it is that the trees and water are more attractive destinations to the electrical currents than I am. That said, once I start " grounding " myself--sitting or walking barefoot or in conductive shoes, I notice how I feel after about 20 minutes. Am I feeling stressed/distressed or am I starting to feel like I am draining away excess stress? If the latter, I stay. If the former, I move to a new location.  After 40 or 50 minutes of " grounding " , you should have a rejuvenated feeling. A feeling of relief. You might be very tired, but it will feel like a " relaxed " tired, not a " wired " tired. You will be able to breathe easier, you will feel lighter....  Sorry I don't know, off-hand, of books on " grounding " yourself. I shared a book here some years ago about trees which had a bit on the subject. Also, the book, " Energy Medicine " (the yellow one) by Donna Eden, discusses " grounding " your body. It is a great book to read tho for all the exercises it explains--how to clear the meridians, expand the aura, etc, etc.  Very little of it is directly about " grounding " the body; however, the entire book is related to it. The book is about maximizing your electrical system in your body, so that you feel better and have more energy.  Also, I am not sure whether you are talking about 2 different subjects--how to " ground " the body and how to " ground " your surroundings, so your body does not pick up stray currents from your atmosphere. These are totally different concepts. There are many books on that subject, also. I have a couple books on that, but unfortunately they are at my other house, so I cannot tell you the names. I will try to remember to get that info when I go there tomorrow. I have been dealing with that at our other house which we are rehabbing. That is a very complicated subject and has many avenues of remediation.  Good luck; I hope I have answered your questions in an understandable way. Diane/Evie From: lolahunt3 <marydelamer@...> Subject: Re: new to group, grounding apparatus Date: Thursday, June 17, 2010, 9:09 PM  Dear Group, Because I cannot find long-term safe housing, I move a lot, from one temporary place to the next.
