refined vs. unrefined

I just asked a question about brands, i.e., Spectrum (organic/unrefined).

Wowee...did I screw up. Just opened a big jar of Spectrum which I knew said

Organic...went to eat a spoonful and yuk...tasted really awful...no wonderful

coconut flavor. So, looked at the jar...OMG...it's REFINED. So, question

is...is there anything I can do with this? Can I use it on my skin/hair...give

it to my pets? Or because it's refined do I just toss it in the garbage? :(

Thanks,

Sure , just use it for cooking anything you dont want a coconut flavor in.It

isnt virgin but it still gives most benefits of VCO.I get expeller pressed to

deep fry with. Works great and aleviates some guilt.LOL

Hmmmm...now I'm not sure what I've been gobbling up the past week is the right

thing to begin with. Not sure it's virgin. It's Spectrum Organic

Unrefined...don't think it says virgin anywhere. I know there was a jar of

virgin next to it in the store, but it was considerably more. Ugh...bet I don't

have the right thing to start with!

Thanks,

I'm pretty sure the recommended type is Extra Virgin CO. Here's a

couple of brands I bought at a reasonable price and I enjoy the

taste of both, a slight coconut flavor. I believe both are good

quality brands.

Nature's Way, EfaGold Coconut Oil Pure Extra Virgin with 62% MCTs,

16 oz - $7.50

Nutiva, Coconut Oil Organic Extra Virgin, 29 oz - $14.96

Unless you're a purist to the core, use it on your skin (I previously suggested

feet). Another superb purpose is a lubricant (as long as condoms are not in use

as a contraceptive). ;-)

I don't refrigerate the oil. I do keep it in a cool area free from sunlight. We

both cook with the oil, use it for an after shower and before bed skin lotion.

And my husband also takes 4 Tsp a day. -Aprill
