Katy, from that I take great heart that the figures for the substances not

present in oil (I guess these are ones that would make it deteriorate, amino

acids etc) are remarkably similar whatever kind of coconut product one gets.

I was kind of wondering whether having X amount of canned coconut product

would mean the oil could or should be reduced, but possibly not.

Today I went shopping in the city (Perth, Western Australia) and whereas in

the town where I live I count myself fortunate to be able to locate coconut

cream (but forget VCNO!), today I located several coconut products new to

me. In a Far East Import store I located Maynila Coconut Sport - Balls in

syrup (Macapuno). Fitrite Incorporated, Caloocan City, Philippines.

Contains Coconut sport, sugar and water. I don't know what it is (or how it

is eaten by the people in the know!) but the word sport makes me think it is

a sprout in the tree somewhere. Is this from the nut or from the tree? I

guess it is eaten as a dessert.

Also, same shop, a tin of young coconut meat in syrup. Unfortunately, it

contains sodium metabisulfite to retain colour composition - I could wish

they didn't add that. This is Tas brand from Thailand. What ways could

this be eaten?

I also found a new brand of coconut cream (new to me) by TAS. I just

removed the importer's label and find it is manufactured by Vara Food and

Drink Co Ltd. Nakornpathom, tel 662 8812030. No preservatives, just coconut

extract. Oops, and water. Same brand, also coconut milk, but no

percentages given.

Then, in a Middle Eastern store, I found CBC brand coconut oil in TINS!

Never heard of such a thing. No mention of VCNO, but hey, coconut oil,

folks! I haven't tested it yet, but even if I don't want to eat it, I could

likely use it on the skin or make soap with it. www.simedarbyepl.com.sg

from Singapore (Sime Darby Edible Prducts, 255 Jalan Boon Lay, Singapore

619524 Tel: (65) 6264 3733 Ingredients: Pure Coconut Oil. The contents of

the page that came up mystified me, but I put in a search for coconut oil

and got

http://www.simedarbyepl.com/result.php?original= & host=www.simedarbyepl.com & searc\

h=Y & Keywords=coconut+oil

which listed all sorts of coconut oil. So I was not very much wiser about

CBC coconut.

Then I googled the firm's name, and eventually realised the address should

have had sg after it, that they did not print. A bit more searching gave

me http://www.simedarbyepl.com.sg/products2.html about the oil. So here we

go: CBC pure white coconut oil is pure virgin oil expelled from selected sun

dried copra (kernel of coconut fruit). and : Using only the freshest oil

helps to enhance the taste of your creation. CBC is saturated with nitrogen

before it is packed to keep the oil fresh.

Nitrogen? Haven't heard of that before. Would one call that NITROGENATED

oil?

Copra-based pure virgin oil. Okay. We know all about terminology and

inexactitude.

Other uses: The friend I visited in Perth is also using coconut oil on her

furniture and leather goods. She seems very pleased with it. She adds a

touch of eucalyptus oil with it.
