New user of Coconut Oil Weght Gain

I have read that people are meant to lose weight on Coconut oil..

I have just started using the Virgin Coconut oil, but have not yet worked up to

the tablespoon before each meal.

I really hope I will lose the weight..I don't need to put it on!

Hi Lex, I have been on 3 tablespoons of coconut oil for over a year and have

gained at least 15lbs instead of losing like I needed to. I definitely feel

better when I take the oil with more enenrgy and less aches and pains , however

I am also frustrated with the wt. gain. I do believe you probably need to stay

with very low carb and less food. I have tried this and it does help me keep

from gaining, but does not help me lose. I believe some people regardless of

how good the fat is simply cannnot tolerate a lot of fat in their diet.I am

going to give it up for now to get my wt. off and I do not eat any white

anything or sugar and still gained. I hestitated to reply to you because I do

not want to discourage others from taking this and I believe I am in the

minority on wt. gain, but I didn't want you to think you were alone with this. I

would try the low carb and cut down on portions and maybe that will work for

you.Good luck and I again I am a true believer in the

Coconut oil caused me to lose 5 lbs in 2 weeks. Kicked up my

metabolism. BUT I always had a wonderful metabolism, could eat anything

and stayed thin as a rail, dropped the weight I gained after each

pregnancy. Then with my fourth child I was on bedrest 10 weeks for

premature labor, and I had to take a pill every four hours that made my

heart pound until it seemed my teeth were rattling in my head. So I

would eat some bread and butter that I wasn't hungry for just to take

th edge of the meds. Well, not only did I gain more weight than I ever

had before, I also lowered my metabolism from all the bedrest. Having a

C-section didn't help matters. Ever since then, I've carried extra

weight. Not terrible bad, but not my former svelte self, either.

Coconut oil definitely helped me regain my metabolism and slim down.

Carbs are a killer, in more ways than one. There is NO RDA for

carbs. So one can seriously cut back on carbs and be healthy. One

gets some carbs in most every veggie, but much of the carb-dense

modern diet can be eliminated.

When I was diagnosed diabetic in 2001, I cut out a lot of carbs, but

not nearly enough (I still ate a banana, an apple, and other fruits

every day. As I began to do my own research, I discovered that the

ADA diet for diabetics was way way too high in carbs. So I cut out

all the carbs I could. About this time, I discovered coconut oil.

In the following year and a half, I lost 70 pounds, and then another

20 pounds the next 6 months. The combo of low carb plus coconut oil

really brought my weight off. Coconut oil gives the cells energy

which is not the glucose my high carb diet used to provide. So I

felt far more energetic than I did on low carb diet with no coconut

oil.

Coconut oil also helps with carb cravings. Initially when I cut back

on carbs, passing near a bakery was painful because when I smelled the

fresh baked french bread and cookies, I began to salivate and my gut

rumbled like I was starving to death. But once I began taking coconut

oil daily, I am no longer tempted to eat carb foods I should not eat.

Yes, unfortunately, that has been one of the side effects for me as

well. I've gained about 10 pounds, so I'm seriously thinking of

eliminating the coconut oil from my diet. I really don't need that

extra weight, when I really need to lose!

Alobar,

It is great that coconut oil helped eliminate your cravings for

carbs. But the same does not hold true for everyone. When I

started taking coconut oil my body just screamed for sugar, and still

does. I'm wondering if perhaps we add/eliminate foods (carbs and

coconut oil) in a certain order we can cut down on cravings and carbs

and lose weight???? There has to be some explanation of why some

people gain weight while others lose and why some people lose their

cravings for carbs while others gain. Can the people who are losing

weight and cravings explain what steps they took, and in what

order??? That would be a great help to those of us going in the

opposite direction.

Hi Theresa

I am also facing the same issue like you after going on the VCO i increase my

weight instead of losing weight.

I notice i began to eat more now so i stop taking the VCO

Anybody have any sound advice

Theresa,

My experiences are:

VCO satisfies my desire for fats (I use it in my oatmeal instead of butter and

don't eat microwave popcorn or chips anymore)

VCO significantly reduces my sugar cravings (so I tend to grab other nutritious

things to eat instead)

VCO gives me more energy and mental alertness

BUT, along with that, I need to make sure emotional issues don't supercede what

the VCO can do for me. As time goes by, I stop and think before I grab

something to eat. I ask myself if this is something my body is craving or am I

grabbing it to soothe some emotional stress. If it is stress, that is a form of

self medicating just like using drugs, alcohol, or cigarettes.

There are other things I include with 3 - 4 tab. VCO daily. I also consume milk

and water kefir daily. The three of them, along with lots of water, tend to

fill me up. Great to do just before meals. They won't last in your stomach as

long as a meal would, but they do help. At work, I have bags of raw, organic

nuts and dried fruits. (not roasted nuts!!!) I have not touched the candy

machine once this year.

I am ordering Villi and Kombucha from the Kefir_making list to add to my

list.

My emotional weakness is eating just before bed. Anybody have any suggestions

for me???

Theresa for myself, once I started using VCO daily THANKFULLY, my cravings went

away and I LOVE chocolate but don't care now. I tried using VCO for a year,

just in the mornings because it SEEMED to keep me awake at night, sometimes all

night. But THEN I read an article on this list about Liver Detox and noted that

BECAUSE I was ALSO taking Cayenne Pepper pills (for circulation), I was not able

to CLEAR the Coconut Oil and it just kept circulating I guess. It took months of

going through this and DEPRIVING my body of VCO, before I figured it out.

Thankfully Duncan supplied that article showing that Cayenne, Grapefruit Juice,

Ketoconazole (used for Yeast infections) and one or two other things, that

SLOWED DOWN Phase 1 of the Liver Detox so that the VCO built up.

Thank God, I took the time to find and read that article. I stopped using the

Cayenne and now I can take the FULL DOSE of 4 tbsp. daily of VCO and even late

in the evening and can sleep okay. I'm rarely hungry, my Diabetes is under

control without those pills, I have no cravings for sweets anymore which I did

after EVERY meal and I am so thankful.

If you take the full dose (divided) your cravings should also fade away.

In a very kind and loving way I would like to address a word to those

proponents of " it's very simple. " Weight loss, for those of us who

are chronically overweight is anything but simple. I have spent

every day for over thirty years of my life trying to lose weight by

adhering to low-carbs. To tell someone who, for whatever

psychological or physical (or both) reason is addicted to carbs and

especially to sugar is like shouting in a hurricane.

My body craves carbs in a way that interferes with everything I do.

I have tried accupuncture, EFT, taking various concoctions and a very

long list of other means, including coconut oil that " fight sugar

cravings " and all to no avail. When my body wants sugar I cannot

focus on anything else until I get it. Many people label this

a " weak excuse " for overeating, but believe me, I am a strong,

intelligent person, and this is more than real.

So please, if someone has some constructive information on how to

reduce carb cravings, I would by forever grateful. To say " it's very

simple " is not helpful.

There's something that I'm noticing--

Instead of replacing other oils with VCO, many are

simply adding 3-4 Tablespoons of VCO to their regular

diet.

The thermogenic properties aside, this is adding

between 351-468 calories to one's diet every day.

Unless the VCO is SO thermogenic that it can help burn

at least all of those additional calories PLUS some,

those same calories are going to end up as extra

weight.

I'm a big VCO fan--but to think that eating another

several hundred calories of oil a day will help you

DROP lbs does not add up. I am wagering that if I

consumed an additional 400 calories a day, at the end

of the year I'd have consumed enough extra calories to

gain about 40 lbs. (using 3500 calories as an approx

number of calories in a pound)
