Guest guest
Rose: I too have had my thyroid removed, back in 96. May I suggest that your friend and perhaps yourself look at this website.......http://thyroid.about.com..........it helped me to understand alot about hypothyroid and what to expect and about the different medications. If she is on synthroid her Dr. may be keeping her to low to help avoid ostoprocious (sp). With synthroid if it is to high there is a chance of up to a 13% bone loss. This site will help her to understand about T4 and T3 and about levels. Also alot of Dr. really do not understand about thyroid and she may need to find another. I am also wondering how her calcium levels are, because alot of the time the parathyroids do not function after the thyroid is removed and this can also cause weight gain among other things. Hypoparathyroid is something to be very aware of in her case. Mine were fine up until about 3 years ago, if all my meds are correct then I feel good. Hope some of this helps. glo
Guest guest
Rose, Since your friend has had her thyroid removed she must be taking thyroid medication to keep her metabolism up. Coconut oil's effect on metabolism is much more mild than the drugs she is using. So in her case, she will not see much reduction in her weight by using coconut oil to stimulate metabolism. Coconut oil is most useful in helping to speed up a sluggish thyroid. But when the thyroid is gone you have a different situation. However, coconut oil can be of benefit if combined with a sensible eating plan. Coconut oil helps to satisfy hunger so it can help your friend reduce that amount of food she eats and the number of calories she consumes. A little oil, 1 tablespoon or so, should be eaten at each meal. But she needs to consciously pay attention to what she eats and how much she eats.
