Guest guest
If the " Doctor " sys coconut oil contains cholesterol, I would not bother reading anything her had to say about anything dietary. The man is an idiot. CHeck out the USDA food database for coconut oil: http://www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/cgi-bin/list_nut_edit.pl 100 gferams of cocnut oil contains ZERO mg of cholesterol. If the " doctor " does not know that, he is either a fool, or is being malicious. Guest guest
I just got information this pm that he is also going the rounds of hospitals here in the Philippines saying the Coconut Oil has cholesterol. We will check on him. He is American trained and a lot of people are saying that this must be part of the negative campaign again on coconuts. They say his trips are funded by the Soya Bean Industry. Guest guest
He says no such thing! In fact, he says that coconut oil has " zero cholesterol. " Here is what the article says: <<Here is a list of the most commonly found ones on the grocery shelves, including the calories (cal), fat contents in grams (F), saturated fat in grams (SF), cholesterol (Ch), per tablespoonful: • canola cal –121, F 13.6, SF – 1; • coconut cal – 118, F – 13.6, SF – 11.8; • corn cal – 121, F – 13.6, SF – 1.7; • olive cal – 119, F – 13.5, SF – 1.8; • peanut cal – 119, F – 13.5, SF – 2.3; • soybean cal – 121, F – 13.6, SF – 2.0; • palm cal – 121, F – 13.6, SF – 6.7. All of these have zero cholesterol and sodium. Canola has the lowest saturated fat content and coconut, the highest. One coconut has about 1,349 calories and 127.7 grams of fat, 113 saturated fats and 76 mg. of sodium. Eating a lot of coconut oil or food items made of, or with, coconut, is not really healthy. Our choice for cooking oil is, of course, canola oil.>> Nina Dr. Philip Chua's comment about coconut oil Bruce, Dr. Philip Chua who is a leading doctor here in the Philippines is claiming that coconut oil has cholesterol, please see the attached link http://www.philippinenews.com/news/view_article.html?article_id=0ce2cafc3576 c7a7e6fefd6a71d9668b now it really is very confusing. Guest guest
Jeanne, I think she was quoting Dr. Chua in the article, not expressing her own sentiments. Guest guest
Dr. Chua states the following: " LOSING weight on a diet that is high in fat is dangerous for overall health. The risk of coronary heart disease has been found to be significantly increased among those individuals who stayed on a high protein red meat diet to lose weight. While these subjects became slimmer, their cholesterol levels were high, leading to a higher rate of heart attacks. " All of these statements are false! But the food and drug industry want the public to believe these falsehoods. Studies with low-carb diets high in fat have repeatedly shown to give better cholesterol readings than low-fat diets. Plus their overall health IMPROVES. People on therapeutic diets which are extremely high in fat (90% of total calories) mostly from saturated fat and cholesterol from meat and dairy and maintain the diet for several years experience no harmful effects on the heart, no plaque buildup in the arteries, and no harmful effects whatsoever. They do get better blood sugar control, better mental function, etc. You don't hear about this because it goes against what is " politically correct " so it is never mentioned by the promoters of the low-fat, anti-cholesterol industry and their friends in the media. Guest guest
Jeanne is correct. I wouldn't touch canola oil with a 10-foot pole.
