The Maury Show (What a 16 year old, AP person has to say....)

Hello Everybody-

I rarely post on this list because I'm usually busy with school and all

but this conversation did spark my intrest and I wanna say something. I'm 16

years old and I'm average height. The reason why I decided to work with the

LPA is because 1.) my best friend is an LP (OI) 2.) what I've seen on the

maury show.

A while back, I never really liked to watch maury's shows until I saw him

do an episode about lps. (I remember lee was on there , Dave the Dwarf,

tiny trotters, etc..) Anyways, I started watching it and I thought " Wow,

this is really intresting. " I liked how he asked the lps if they rather be

called Little person vs. midget, how they live thier lives, how do ppl look

at them, etc. And I also like it that he showed everybody that despite the

fact that they were shorter than most of us or not quite average height,

they're still people too and they're capable of doing things that other

people do. I thought it was really good that Maury and the lps who came on

the show were advocating for other lps and I decided that I want to do the

same thing.

So, I got in touch with LPA and said that I was intrested in being an

advocate. From there, I got in touch with my chapter pres, and now I'm the

teen/young adult coordinator for my chapter here in Texas. I told a couple of

my friends at school about the LPA, and believe it or not, alot of them would

also like to help out the LPA too. (Yes, 14, 15, 16, and 17 year olds are

intrested in helping the LPA. I know that some of you might think that

teenagers arent intrested in issues facing other people. But ya know, not all

teenagers are like that.)

In response to what alot of people have been saying about maury, I think

that maury does a good job of displaying LPs in a positive way. Now, just

like alot of other people, I dont always agree with some of the shows he does

or some of the things that happen on his shows, BUT he does help people to

change the way they view people who are different from them.

I basically wanted to adress this issue to share my opinions about the

shows maury does with lps and show u that his shows CAN have a positive

influence on other people. As an average height person, when I watched the

show, it didnt make me laugh at lps, it didnt make me feel sorry for lps, it

made me realize that lps are people too and capable of doing the things other

people can do. And thats the message that I think maury tries to bring across

to his audience.

Well, I gotta go but I hope some of y'all at least read the first part of

what I said. Also, if u dont agree with how I feel about the maury show,

thats your opinion but please dont flame me or attack me because of how I

feel. I see that happen alot on this list and I think that brings about more

problems than change. Anyways, I hope to talk to y'all again. Bye!
