Past and present Scouting and Youth Organizations

This is Taras 3rd year in girlscouts...she started as a daisey and is now a

brownie....as a matter of fact I have 3 girls in girlscouts all selling

cookies right now. She does very well and manages to keep up. When she had

her leg surgery last year they even went out of their way to buy her gifts

and send cards...it was great. Iam involved as much as I can be.

She also belongs to a similiar group called Sunbeams through the salvation

army, and also loves that.

in Girl scouts theres another little girl who is very very small although iam

not sure if she has a type of dwarfism or not...so Tara is really comfortable

there.

I was in Cub and Boy Scouts and earned my Eagle rank. Unfortunately, back

surgery at the age of 16 put an end to the backpacking for me. But, it was

a great experience and helped me learn the value of setting goals and

working to achieve them. My daughter has been in Brownies and Girl Scouts

and has also had a very positive experience.

Hi there,

I am the Advancement Chair for my son's Boy Scouts Troop and in prior

years an Asst Den Leader for his Cub Scout Pack. I am an LP and my

son is average size. As a child I was never involved in scouting

though I wish I was...my son LOVES scouting.

In case you're not aware, the Boy Scouts of America has adopted a

policy to accommodate scouts with physical and mental disabilities.

This may be helpful for those LPs who are unsure if they want to

participate in scouting or if they find the physical challenge too

difficult. I would think that other Scouting organizations may have

similiar policies in place as well.

Hello there,

I enjoyed girl scouts, 4 - H, and then in high school joined the dama club

and of course I've always been involved in choir or in singing of some sort.

:-)

That was my club involvement... until University when things livened up a

bit. ;-)

My daughters (both achondro) have been involved in scouting since 1st grade.

They started as Brownies, and now one (10 yrs. old) is in Juniors, and her

older sister (14) is in a combined Cadette/Senior troop and is finishing up

work on her silver award so she can start her gold award. Scouting has been

a great experience for both of them...and really except for an occasional

accomodation for long hiking trips, there really hasn't been anything they've

felt left out of. In fact, this past August, my oldest daughter went white

river rafting with her troop and had such a wonderful time that she is

convinced that we should make that activity our next family outing! I think

I liked it better when they went horseback riding as a troop...and all she

wanted was a horse in the backyard...... :>)

When I was a little girl I was in the Brownies, and made my way up to being a

girl scout, then I got kicked out because I wasn't selling anything( call it

lazy if you will).

Then I grew up and in Junior High became a cheerleader. Then a little older in

High School as a freshman joined the Drill Team, competed and got second place(

I even marched for a mile in the Christmas Parade). Then I joined the dance

team, won some awards and became Captain. Then senior year finished off with

being on the school newspaper and Senior Class Vice President.

I sure do miss those Pep Rallies!!

When I was growing up I was in Campfire, at that time, Girls and

absolutely loved it. I was so disappointed when our troop broke up in

the 5th grade but since I changed schools I never did find a new troop.

Now I am a leader for a group called Winners on Wheels which is a

scouting type program for kids who use wheelchairs.
